I didn't have an emotional reaction to anything. I know exactly what happened with Kale but I am not going to put all his business and decisions on the Internet. I will say that I personally know what was offered to a Kale Breaux and Nick Lee by LSU and when those minimum offers are made to the top 2 pitchers in the state with a "take it or leave it" attitude by the coaching staff my opinion is that they were lowballed. That's just my opinion and as I stated earlier definitely wanted to see them in purple and gold but will now be cheering for them at Miss St and ULL. LSU still had a great recruiting class so I think it has worked out well for everyone.

Kale was offered a total of $14,000 to attend LSU over a 4 year period. Would have cost his parents a pretty penny to send him there. Mississippi State offered 125,000 over 4 years. Parents don't have to pay much there. Kindof a no brainer. Kale is a fantastic kid and it was very difficult for him to decommit from LSU. He did what was best for him and his family.

That money equates to a 100% scholly at MSU. The NCAA minimum is 25%, and 100% scholarships are very rare. Kudos to him for getting this.

Thank You! LSU's offer was the minimum. As Tornation stated above, it was a take it or leave it. He left it and got a better offer two months later. Simple as that.

I don't think either side can be faulted here. It's not just other people in their own signing class they're competing with for scholarship dollars. This could be a down cycle for LSU as far as what is available. I can definitely see that with the guys we brought in as Freshmen this year. Especially with the amount of OOS kids in this current freshman class.

The difference was enough, that he chose to decommit to a college that he wanted to go to rather than burden his parents with the cost.

No way they're giving 100% to one guy. If so, that's ludicrous.

So he does not have the GPA to get TOPS? Because if he got tops with the LSU offer, it is not that much of a difference as you are making it.

Look it up. MSU for out of state is pricey - $25K per year.

No offense, but you were willing to itemize the different offers in an attempt to make it look like LSU didn't offer anything close to MSU.

Now, you won't be specific about the out of pocket costs?

The kid has the right to choose his path. He doesn't need to explain it to me, for sure. But, if you are trying to make the case that the kid simply didn't have comparable offers, you are doing a real bad job. And, the fact that you mentioned the "take it or leave it" aspect sure does give credence to the "it was an emotional decision" claim.

LSU costs a little over 20,000 per year. Tops pays 6,400 per year. Scholarship offer was around 3,500 per year. Which leaves approximately 10,000 to come up with per year. Approx 40,000 over 4 years.

Are you stupid? In-state tuition is around $3,900 per semester which is fully covered by TOPS. At most, his room and meal plan is $3,000 per semester. With TOPS and the $4,000 LSU offered, he was not placing a $40,000 burden on his parents.

The kid isn't worth a full offer. He's good, but he's not a top 10 high school player in the nation.

Tuition and fees 8,758
Housing 6,120
Meal Plan 4,168
Books and Supplies 1,500
That totals 20,564 to be exact.
Look it up before you call me stupid.

Oh and check out this link. He's being watched for POY nationally, Einstein!

Also note that the Tops Opportunity award does not cover all fees, as shown in the link below it covers approximately 6,400 per year.

Not sure why it says that. But I'm attending LSU right now and it is no where near this number for in-state.

For a full year? That sounds right.

I made my college decision based on the best financial deal too. Hard to blame the kid unless he had an emotional attachment to LSU.

I find it hard to believe Miss St offering that much of their allotment.

Just seems almost impossible. If that's the case, no way can anyone fault him for making that choice.

I guess as a fan of LSU, that much use of their available funds on one kid could be seen as a positive.

I can tell you right now that Kale was very disappointed that he wouldn't be pitching for the Tigers. Circumstances forced his hand. Unfortunately Texas A&M doesn't offer out-of-staters anywhere near what they do kids from Texas. For Kale to pass on Mississippi State's offer would have been preposterous. He's a great kid, happy for him. They've gotta get him to Starkville first, though. We'll see what the MLB thinks soon. The USA POY is also in his future.
