I hope you're right. My guess is he silently committed to Bama on his visit, though, and the timing of Sloan's visit was just coincidental.

Even all our own mods are saying it's Bama, best to not get too attached to this one

Our qb recruiting is lacking
Don't know why you're getting downvoted.
We struck out with Dante Moore for 2023. Now we're about to lose Sayin for 2024.
So far, this staff hasn't proven it can be any better than Les or Orgeron's staff when it comes to recruiting elite quarterbacks nationally. We're 0/2 so far.

HS QB recruiting is much more irrelevant in the transfer portal era.
Two schools will sign all the QBs and then the rest of us will recruit them to actually play in like 2 seasons lol

Sloan got Sloaned in this one. highly overrated coach who tries to talk smart but isn't. got a free trip and vacation to California just to come back empty-handed. no wonder he was rotting for 10 years at a shitty school and no one would touch him.
Weird melt

We can always use the portal as well
The last 3-4 productive QBs we've had have been from the portal:
Mettenberger
Etling
Burrow
Daniels
If Walker Howard stays (which I have no reason to believe he won't) along with Daniels, I wouldn't panic so soon. Collins is committed for '23, there's still time to flip someone for '24 (think about how many times it's happened to us), and in the meantime if a kid that was highly-rated from high school hits the portal with multiple years of eligibility, you grab him.

He can't sign for over a year, even if he commits to Bama, a lot can happen in a year.

We'll get a QB. It's pointless to have 4 or 5 5* QBs on the roster anyway, most of them are gonna transfer out.
If you can pull it off, Bama's strategy is amazing, because at least 1 or 2 or their QBs will hit and be All-American level. They have 5 basically to choose from now, then let the losers transfer out.

And like we saw with Joe Burrow, sometimes the coaches pick the wrong guy, the other guy transfers out and ends up being the better player.

Haskins was unbelievable in college, so I think "wrong player" is tough there. But yes, some diamonds will fall through the cracks. There will be good QBs in the portal.

He does the same thing with the offensive line.

Haskins was the right guy for OSU and their offense.
Burrow wouldn't have been as productive at OSU and had we gotten Haskins, he wouldn't have been as productive at LSU

This sounds like Ohio State rationalizing to me.
If Ohio State made the decision that Haskins was the better player for them at the time, in hindsight, any rational person would conclude that they were wrong.
By every metric that matters, Joe Burrow was the better player in college (record book, national championship, Heisman trophy) and he is the better pro.
Burrow > Haskins

Burrow got hurt which gave Haskins the upper hand

That's been Saban's main strategy since day 1. Sign 4-5 top 10 QBs, have them battle it out during the offseason, and whoever wins out is the main guy for the next couple of years. Saban will simply throw the other ones away like fresh pieces of meat. It's sad that Sayin fully bought into Saban's BS without realizing that he's probably being used and won't get the "guarenteed playing time" bullshite saban promised him

People downvoting because they don't like hear to criticism. I absolutely agree with what you said about Sloan. I've seen nothing from him that has me convinced he can recruit elite QBs. Howard is Orgeron's recruit who's prone to injury, and Daniels was a last-second desperation to get someone to fill in the starting spot. Kelly needs to get rid of Sloan in the offseason and find an NFL qb coach who has a track record of developing QBs. If we can't get the QB situation nailed down then I don't ever see us winning a title.

Eli Ricks literally played at LSU for two years you dummy lol
So yes some of those guys do initially come to LSU. Whether they stay throughout their career is a different story.

Howard was recruited by Kelly as well and even made trips to ND. It seemed like ND may be the school he was going to after O was gone. Howard very much liked Kelly but he is a kid that wants to be at LSU not an "O' recruit like youre saying.
