You said greatest HS Player from BR and well, that’s not true. He has to earn that.

I think he has "as a high schooler".

Also, Petit was a HS basketball player in BR and won a state championship in the toughest class in the state. His importance to BR was every bit as important as Smart and accomplished.

We get it. Petit was great. Smart has accomplished more. So we get to debate this. Put the numbers together. The OP is right.

Lester Earl, Brandon Bass, Big Baby, and Tasmin Mitchell were all McDonalds AA's. Big Baby and Tasmin were known commodities in middle school. Brandon Bass was more under the radar. Lester Earl was a massive name on the national scene. If you go to women's basketball I think Semoine Augustus might have them all beat. She was filling the PMAC from day 1.

We talk about his championships especially as some of these accomplishments, but these are team awards... He can be the same player and if he was on another team and not an established program like Scotlandville, those three state championships might become 1 or none.

Well, how good will Scotlandville be next year without him, or how would they have been without him the last 3 years.

How can he earn it AFTER he is finished with high school? You really are struggling to understand what we are talking about. Smart was named Lousiana HIGH SCHOOL Gatorade athlete of the year for 75% of the time he was in high school. He has an argument as greatest, or at the very least most accomplished BR HS player ever.

Nothing done after his last HS game has any say over that debate.

Yeah not thinking they would be bad, just a genuine question. I know they were good right before him with Damian Jones and Brian Bridgewater owning fools.

Nobody is saying that Smart will be a better college or pro player than Pettit. Chances are extremely low that he will be.

I don't see why some people see it as a slight to Pettit to call Smart the best Baton Rouge high school player ever. It's kind of hard to compare the 2 as far as talent goes (different positions & different time periods), but nobody has accomplished more than Smart. Also, as some people have already mentioned, Augustus is probably the correct answer if women's basketball is taken into account.
