There are multiple message boards on this website. Sounds like you are on the wrong one. No one can sign until December at the earliest.

The dude committed for the attention. I figure this will be a recurring thing with him

So were we supposed to “respect his decision” to commit as well as “respect his decision” to decommit 5 minutes and a cup of coffee later?

Yes like losing one trip to another school or something to that degree. This is getting out control

I have news for him and every recruit out there: the answer is NO.

I don't have to respect your decision.

While I do have to accept it, it is yours and yours alone to make (not really- you are a minor), that doesn't mean I have to like it or respect it. Just like you, me, or anyone else has a 'right' not to be offended; you don't have a 'right' to be respected.

Actually, it makes me respect the first decision (to commit) much less than the second (to decommit). It's the first decision that is a reflection on the person. In recruiting and in life in general.

I agree. When kid commits , I would say we will accept your commitment for if you waver at all there is no scholorship for you

well that would be really stupid.

I'm would bet that at the time the kid made the commitment he meant it. It's just that the LSU recruiters had just been talking with him and wanting a commitment from him and at the time it seemed like a good idea so he committed as he could picture himself in an LSU uniform playing in Arandas defense in tiger stadium and liked the vision.

After a little while he realized that he had jumped to quick under the pressure of the moment to commit.

and he says that about every recruit. Statistically he's bound to be right several times.

You just shouldn't commit early because you get overwhelmed by a school. He was at LSU and everything overwhelmed him including the coaches and he got caught up in the hype and said something he really didn't mean. Then he gets home and family and friends are like, damn, you really going to LSU and shite and then he starts thinking about it along with the new fan base he's gotten in the coaches from other schools starting to bug him, next thing you know, I think I made a mistake. Lol

Yep that's about what I'm picturing. Hard to blame the kid. I'm sure the coaches put on pretty hard sell

yeah. And I question the value of that approach by us (or any school).

On one hand, as this and many other examples show it doesn't really accomplish anything. At best it sticks, but you still have to do the exact same process all the way to signing day. At worst you mislead yourself, and maybe the recruit expects the same level of 'excitement' month after month.

The flip side of that is you get the 'they didn't show me as much love as ________'. Which is, at best, very very irritating.

The only solution I can see is to 'show the love' but not accept commitments at that time. Only accept commitments on later visits which are more matter of fact and lower key to a degree.

THEN you run into the problem of some recruits thinking because you haven't offered you're not interested or, even worst, get offended.

There is NO simple answer.

so at the end of the day- offers mean nothing up until signing day(s), just ask Goodrich. And commitments mean nothing until AFTER signing day(s). Both sides just need to accept it.
