(Not talking about the coaching staff)

Everyone is quick to bring up DL or CB, maybe even the RB, TE (young talent infusion incoming) but it seems that outside of Mr. Harold Perkins it’s largely unproven or underwhelming.

Greg Penn III JR seemed stiff and out of position and not a great tackler (may have improved down the stretch) consistently over pursuing.
Solid question mark, if not upgrade needed.

West Weeks more of an inside short yardage situational guy. Also stiff and not in an LSU mold of sideline to sideline closer. Limited Impression Role player at best.

DeMario Tolen, some real excitement for this dude. He had a few flashes of explosiveness but 2nd year guy. May need another year to be a 3 down guy?

Kolbe Fields transferred out!

======
Young talent
Whit Weeks 6-2 210-220 athletic
Makes plays on both sides the ball likes contact and more of a 3rd down LB especially early.

Christian Brathwaite 3-4 star Guy 225
Seems to be more of an outside player

No portal talk on LBs ?? Thoughts?

It's a new era of CFB witb the portal so it's hard to evaluate a recruiting class.

When I look over the class, it seems DB heavy and interior DL light. But again, there's the portal.

"We will use the portal strictly to bolster a position group.“ BK

He’s also stated that they’ll go heavy on defensive guys in the portal.

I’m certain Kelly will address areas of need, and do so quickly.

We usually only play 2 LBs.

I agree that Greg Penn looked out of position much of the year, but I also remember that also being the case for some guy name Damone Clark the year before he blew up and made a name for himself. Also could be said about Baskerville a couple of years ago. I am willing to give Penn a chance to see how he does with a full off-season to learn the defense more and hopefully show himself to be a leader.

Probably, but it seems that that position group has been lagging behind all of the others. IF it is solidified, great, good, grand!

We've got guys, but we've also lost guys. If it ends up being the only group we're worried about though, we should be okay.

Whit Weeks is now rated as the #134 player in the country and the #11 linebacker in the country by 247.

That's higher than anybody currently on the roster outside of Harold Perkins. Based on that, it's foreseeable that he might be an impact recruit who's in there fighting with Tolan and Penn and maybe his brother for that second LB spot.

The question is whether you want to go through the season with only six scholarship linebackers on the roster. I'm going to guess they'll add somebody from the portal even if it's for depth and special teams.

2 are in the LA top dozen. Both out of state.
