I mean they obviously comitted to Miles I mean he is the head coach at the university. What I am saying is Miles wasnt the main reason they comitted to LSU.

Les may not be the main reason some of these recruits committed but the relationship Les builds with them is very important. Those relationships take more than a month to build, which is how long a new coach would have. Les has been putting in work for 6 years now and the high school coaches and players in Louisiana know him.

Keeping Frank Wilson will help a new coach but if these recruits don't like the new coach then they will likely go to another school. Wilson is great but he isn't the man in charge.

I understand that a few players would leave, but a bunch of them are committing more to LSU than Les.

Why do you assume they are not committed to the coach. Freak was a UT commitment until Wilson came to LSU. Did you see what happened to Tenn class when Kiffin and O left?Remember the 2005 debacle of a class LSU was left with when Saban left?

That'll reel in a top notch coach. . .

Come to LSU, but we get to pick your staff.

Whatever coach comes here, if this happens, would be an absolute idiot not to retain a good number of guys on this staff, ESPECIALLY Wilson. You lose Wilson, the LA floodgates will open. This class will go from a potential top 5 to barely sniffing the top 25

it all depends on who we hire. And who they keep on staff.

It's really not that complicated. Then again this all ties into the chavis to texas talk as well. Maybe chavis already knows?

we did have a few holdovers from Saban's staff to Miles.

you never know.

who is to say Frank Wilson or any of the other assistants want to work for a new coach though?

that's the question. There is a decent amount of movement this year in the coaching world. Plenty of people, NFL and college, will be looking for assitants

LM is a great recruiter. His job is to recruit and keep talent and put good coordinators in his stead. he has done that with Chavis and if he replces Crowton he is the man

If you required them to keep Crowton, Studs or Rodriguez you may have a point.

The only guys I can see LSU requesting they keep are Wilson, Chavis, Cooper, Haley, and MAYBE Robinson (since special teams has been very good).

Why would a coach, like say Sumlin, not want to do that?

Wilson is versatile and can coach a multitude of positions from WR, RB, to TE.

Cooper is one of, if not THE best DB coaches in the country. Chavis is a solid defensive coordinator and would allow a good transition.

If your a head coach, you are going to keep the most valuable assistants here assuming they're willing to work with you.

LSU is going to take that into account.

Yeah, because bringing in your own RB or WR coach is worth losing a couple of top recruits.

Offense: Gonzales (for Florida) and Wilson (HAS to stay, good RB coach)

Defense: Haley (Amazing recruiter) and Cooper (Possibly best secondary coach)

Gonzales could go if the new coach brought someone in to recruit Florida. The other 3 are 3 guys you would have to hold onto if you want to hold this class together for commits and current recruits

I think should Les choose to leave, this class will be fine, although maybe not as good as people hoped for originally.

Would fall apart. I imagine it would struggle to stay in the top 15.

This. We might not like him but he has connection with his recruits and players

I still think the recruit is committing to LSU and not the coach is horseshite.

The coach is the one that extends the offer not the school.

No top recruit is going to just accept an offer to a school when he hasnt ever visited or even talked to the head coach or position coach.

Are there guys out there that would committ on the spot? yes and they prob are not being heavily recruited by other schools.

Most recent recruit. Randle.... LSU fan living in a pro LSU part of the state with pro lsu high school coaches. Why did he wait til signing day to committ? Not all these kids automatically go to LSU if they are from here or even grew up a fan.

One we a recruiting now. Johnson.... Didnt his interest in LSU go up once Wilson got here? frick look at Hill. He may still come here, but he is obviously having second thoughts. I think the coaches and their ability to recruit have every part in why kids choose a school.

Not to mention the 51% of oos commits we have had since miles has been here. They may have been LSU fans, but obviously needed a push to come here.

Miles also personally recruited mettenberger. He didnt choose LSU cus he was a fan and dreamed playing here when he was a kid. Yes LSU has had a good reputation and partly from our current head coach.

Our head coaches ability to recruit is going to keep LSU competitive not the name alone. Especially with the other top notch coaches in our league.

Our recruiting ranking in 05 would have been less if RP didnt switch his commitment. That was not a good class. Change in head coach is not always a good thing. Especially when you got guys like nick saban trying to grab the best LA has to offer. This is not the year we want guys like laell or johnson have second thoughts. Plus a new staff would have less time than Les and co had to finish up the recruiting year with plenty of big names still on the board.
