If Dare and Dec both come back. Yikes! (I'm done beating this dead horse now)

We could be looking at all 5 starters leaving at once next year! Anybody thought about that?
Of those who would be back:
Wire can play OT or OG and would be an interesting experiment at Center. Dellinger at one of the tackles though his feet might work at OG also. For me Joseph Evans either has to be inside OL or DT but he has to be on the field. Dumervil competing at tackle, Turner Bradford, Thomas, and recruits...
No matter who stays we need at least 3 guys who haven't played yet to get significant time this year---hopefully one is a Center---or we'll be looking at the same kind of inconsistent OL play we had this year.
Thoughts?

Edit:
Can't believe I left out Martinez and Hill! MM looked poised for the few plays he was on the field.
The point of the post is not to predict a hot mess left because the entire line leaves at once! SMFH!
It's about developing depth which for now has to come from developing/coaching up our current players---hopefully at least 3.

You are right, very difficult to replace all 5 starters. However it may be a bit easier if we aren't having to throw 5 freshmen or Sophs out there. Hope for a full spring ball and then get some of these guys reps in the right spots next fall and it won't be so bad of a transition.
Just my 2 cents

Better to be starting five new O-lineman next year, all with an additional year in the program, than being forced to start any of them this year.

This assumes of course none of the five we are discussing are beaten out in camp. I suspect Wire, Dumerville and Martinez will, at a minimum, push for major playing time.

Rosenthal, Wire, Hines and Ingram will all have eligibility after 2021.

You chance it all on the hope of being special next year.

It’s a no brainer. You never ever regret returning an experienced offensive line.

It doesn’t matter with lsu fans. They all go pro and we can’t keep 3,4, and 5 year guys. They all come back and omg who will play next year

Is this a serious take?

“Damn it! We might have all starters back! Why can’t some leave now so we will have less experience next year but more the year after!”

This is a valid point/concern, Damathe.

And in my humble opinion, I believe there’s a reasonable chance we will lose the 5 presumptive starters - assuming Dare/Deculus return.

I have several thoughts on this topic as follows:

1. First & foremost, I am hoping Joseph Evans is moved back to OL permanently (w/ Farrell & Logan coming back, we will have 7 DTs for 2021);

2. Only take Eric Wilson, grad. txfr. OG from Harvard, if he does in fact have two (2) years eligibility (which I believe to be the case per 247 insiders); AND you are reasonably confident he stays with the program BOTH years (i.e., not departing after 2021 season);

3. Cregg absolutely, positively MUST demonstrate the ability to develop Bradford, Thomas &/or Perry to the point where at least 2 of the 3 provide quality snaps in meaningful 2021 games (not including Turner b/c I hear he’s transferring). Given the frequency in which OLs are injured, it is almost a certainty that 1-2 of these guys will have opportunity for PT during 2021 season. Point being, by the end of 2021, it is imperative to understand which of the three can be meaningful contributors in 2022 (and if the answer is none, that’s an indictment on Cregg IMO);

4. Do whatever necessary to sign Jordan Moko (No. 1 JUCO tackle from Snow College in Utah), because from what I’ve learned about him is that his position, experience, athleticism, remaining eligibility and potential provide the most upside in the least amount of time; and

5. Sign at least one transfer OL that can be an instant impact contributor as part of the 2022 recruiting class.

Better to have this problem in 2 years vs next year. Realistically they all could have left this year

Finishing my response to your OP, Damathe, if we end up signing another four-man OL class in 2022 (i.e., Campbell, Jones, Taylor, & Txfr. OL), I would project that the 2022 offensive line could look something like the following:

LT: C. Wire (1), X. Hill (2), W. Campbell (3)
LG: E. Wilson (1), T. Perry (2), K. Makaneole (3), L. Taylor (4)
C: J. Evans (1), M. Martinez (2)
RG: A. Bradford (1), K. Thomas (2), E. Jones (3)
RT: M. Dumervil (1), J. Moko (2), G. Dellinger (3), 2022 Txfr. OL (4)

This would result in the 2022 LSU Tigers having approximately sixteen (16) scholarship lineman.

And while the projected 2022 OL above certainly wouldn’t have tons of experience, it would at least reflect a decent blend of Fr/So/Jr/Sr players with varying amounts of PT. Undoubtedly, it is more balanced so that we shouldn’t face another situation in which we stand to lose every projected starter at the conclusion of a season.

Most important, we would have at least one experienced OT (Wire) and OG (Wilson) that could be aligned for blind-side protection, with the other OG (Bradford) and OT (Dumervil) being players that projected to have some of the highest ceilings on the team (but rather limited experience as starters).

Anyway, that concludes my two cents on this matter.

Question for Bradleyrice13 - how/where did you learn that Dare is coming back? Has he posted an announcement, or you getting this from TOS?? (I also heard that Dare is coming back, so just trying to determine if you learned of it from same source as myself). TIA buddy!!

Yep. Hopefully Spring Ball will see good coaching up and some healthy competition so it won't be quite a stretch/drop off if 3 more guys can get real snaps.

Yep. You make a lot of cogent points.
If Wilson does have 2 years I have to wonder---being a grad student---if he would actually want to use them both.
I would love to see him come in and compete/push at RG. His experience of the extra year would be gravy.

I don’t think having depth is ever a negative. Best case scenario is you’re ahead in a lot of games to where the young guys you named get game reps. The objective is to have plenty of underclassmen capable and ready to play, but not depending on them. Having spring and summer camps will help in that objective also.

Don't let them get under your skin, Damathe.

Tons of toolbags that post on the TD boards.

I understood what you were pointing out, and I appreciated you raising the point b/c it was something I had thought about recently.

Pay the 'tards no mind, and keep up the interesting posts my friend!!!!
