I want it for the kid. It sucks we keep getting these kids who commit to LSU and then drop down to 4 stars (Jalen Brown, Shelton Sampson Jr) after CBS decides to update their rankings. I know most of our kids in this class are mature and humble, and handling it well, and that's an encouraging fact. But it just sucks. It has to hurt a little inside when that happens, and it seems like recruiting sites disrespect LSU and the state of Louisiana a lot.

Completely agree - sucks for the player - but this staff is recruiting solid young men - it’s just fuel for the fire in that case

I usually don’t care at all. These rankings are insane! What could Collins have done to drop 60 spots in the last month?? fricking Insane!

Hopefully they use that chip that's on their shoulder as fuel.

The change the rankings for clicks which make them money. They are a business; never forget that.

And lastly remember that the rankings DO NOT MATTER. Rankings will not win or lose a team a single game.

They can go be 4*’s with Ja’Marr fricking Chase and Odell Beckham Jr and laugh their way to the bank it just makes the recruiting “experts” lose even more credibility than they already have over the years

That can only last so long before you lose all credibility and get no clicks at all...like all businesses your reputation matters and when you lose that you have no business, never forget that...

The business of college football recruiting does not care.

It does suck. But in the last 20 years we have won more national championships than anyone not named Bama. And we are sending an insane amount of players to the NFL. I don’t expect that trend to stop anytime soon. So we know we are getting the talent. frick these rankings….

Agreed. Until folks stop visiting their sites to read about recruits and “rankings”, they will never die.

Outrage brings clicks. They know exactly what the frick they are doing.

The way they (the kids) should look at it and the way we (fans and local media) should start talking nationally about it is if they were ever a 5* then that never changes. They will be called a 5* and be considered a 5* by everyone who covers LSU and watches them.

If they don’t want to cover / list our Louisiana players properly then Louisiana should start our own national ranking site for these kids and only cover the SEC. Frick these national clowns! I hope this happens and takes their business. We rank these kids properly. SEC fans would love it and the rest of the country would hate it but it would still sell and get clicks nationally.

So basically, the way I see it is that LSU actually landed (5) 5* players last year. Walker Howard, Emery Jones, Will Campbell, Harold Perkins and Quincy Wiggins. I know Jones was never a 5* but clearly he is and neither was Jamar Chase. All are legitimate 5* players who would have been 5* if they were playing in California or anywhere on the east coast.

We’d have to change it up and be a little different but that’s the point. We’d have to list more 5*s than they do but why wouldn’t you have more 5* players year to year? Everyone knows you have more year to year. That would be justification for it. Just let the subscribers know that it has nothing to do with how they project into the NFL or as first rounders. This would be the most dominant HS players in the country who have earned that 5* status, and project to be immediate starters at the college level and the ability to stand out in college.

This notion of only listing 32 5* players because of 1st round projection is stupid and has no place in ranking HS / college players anyway. Some years they could easily have 44 5* players. They also don’t drop the 5* status because of injuries, unless there’s reason to believe they aren’t the same player. If it’s a major injury and it’s right before leaving for college then make a questionable 5* status list and explain. You drop their ranking but not their star status.

That’s how you combat these clowns! It would blow up too! If it has good people who actually do their jobs and it has true evaluations of these kids, it would sell everywhere. You don’t need to pander to these big metro areas. It would be a hit, simply because it’s different and they hire the best college football analysts to perform the evaluations, no matter how rural the HS. Former HS coaches, college coaches, players and people who’ve been in the recruiting game.

There would still be misses but not as many and when they hear about it, they go check it out and change it. It’s not hard to do. I’m not saying to devalue the 5* player by flooding it and listing everyone as a 5* but some years have 30, some years 50, some years 60. You don’t cap those numbers! Do your job and list them as such if they earn it. Louisiana is easily the most undervalued state concerning these rankings, and it should change.

Rankings may not matter to us fans who know better but they do matter to these kids and it does impact your programs image. These kids want to play with the best so ranking our kids lower, lowers the programs national image.

I’m not sure how big of an impact it has but it definitely impacts us. They know this already too. I’ve been hearing much more that a Louisiana 3* or 4* is equivalent to a 4* and 5* anywhere else. Noah Cain said something like this and I always hear former players say it, no matter where they from. Louisiana players are different, is what they say and these rankings are the reason.

Where I think it hurts LSU is momentum. If the LSU commits drop their rankings and it hurts the team ranking, and alternatively the Bama bump, the uncommitted guys may see the opportunity of being in a #1 class more attractive and commit to a place like Bama.

The moment these services lost a lot of credibility with me was not listing Devin white as a 5 star. He was clearly on top of both LSU’s and Bama’s board ( the two best programs at the time) and his measurable were off the chart ( size, speed , athleticism).
