This seems to be a big variable that not many people are talking about, when it comes to procurement of players.

Your guess is as good as mine, but it is my understanding that the clearing house serves to keep NIL deals within an acceptable fair market value.
Essentially, it only limits teams from overpaying by an exorbitant amount. I could be wrong, but that is my current understanding.

Depends on how stringent they are. The big issue with a clearinghouse approach is how can any school in good conscience promise money to player if they don't know what if any will be approved by the clearinghouse?
Seems like schools will just lie upfront and if it gets denied, they can say "oh well, it's out of our hands".

This was my exact thought... how can schools promise $3M to a stud player over 2 years with certainty??
Obviously it's yet to be seen how it will play out, but do schools and athletes have any form of guidance or reliable information? Just seems like a wild new twist to this whole process
And I get it... does Underwood deserve $10M? Probably not... but who determines what is essentially slot value for a particular player??

Rule #1: Do not conflate Revenue Sharing with NIL, two separate beasts..
Rule #2: Revenue share offered to players by the athletic department is not subject to the clearinghouse oversight, but limited by an aggregate cap per the House settlement.
Rule #3: Aggregate revenue share is a known amount by the powers that be and will be allocated accordingly.
Rule #4: The powers that be have a good understanding of what NIL deals are available to offer in any particular circumstance.

Big money players won't be paid via NIL. They'll get most of their money via rev share, which has no per player limit and no scrutiny. Lesser paid players will get paid via NIL. It is much easier to justify a 300k NIL deal, than a $3,000,000 NIL deal in the clearinghouse.

It should be easy to get any smaller sponsorship deals and such through the clearinghouse. It may be that the top players get a large percentage of rev share, but then also get multiple other NIL deals added to bolster their total amounts.
When it was reported that we had over $30 mil to spend on NIL this year, at least $8-9 mil of that is earmarked for NIL above the rev share amount.

While I agree with the sentiment you're sharing, it's clear they're installing adjudicators to the process... im just wondering how that will change the transfer portal process

I can't imagine any court in America dictating what a person's worth to a business or entity specifically is.
I remember reading an article that said a memorandum was being sent to every division 1 school asking for a signature agreeing to give this clearinghouse ultimate authority in policing these transactions. Hardly any of the big schools have signed this agreement.
This clearinghouse is gonna be just like that crossing guard trying to block the pass rush in that State Farm commercial. Wildly unsuccessful.
