I posted something about this last month and was crucified for it. Said it is way too early to start poking the bear, but I'm with you, it is a little bizarre, considering some schools have like 24 committs

The truth is that A&M being “sooooooooo rich” is a meme started by their own fans to compete with big bro Texas who actually has a lot of incredibly rich alumni compared to other schools. Their only evidence of “A&M being so rich” is that they have a huge endowment which is because they have a culture of every graduate donating a disproportionate amount of money back to the school. It’s not because all of their grads are making $100,000,000+ like they want everyone to think. They don’t have a significantly higher average mid-career income than any other SEC school, their biggest alum-owned business is Blue Bell which is much smaller than Raising Cane’s in terms of revenue, and they generally just aren’t what they pretend to be. Endowment doesn’t buy recruits, period. They can repeat that they have the biggest endowment ever all day long, but your top 5-10 boosters are buying the recruits, and they really don’t have an advantage over LSU, Bama, Georgia, or even Florida/Arky there.

They’re playing a recruiting game where they’re promising an assload of money to recruits with not many more mega-rich donors than other SEC schools and it looks like it’s biting them in the arse. They got very lucky by being the first mover last year in terms of (surprise) every member of their cult of college station being in lockstep on getting NIL spending approved legally, but they won’t be able to keep it up at that level.

I just think it’s funny that everyone believes that they have this huge financial dick when it comes to NIL when their top guys are a dying ice cream company and a bunch of CEO’s who frankly don’t make shite for money compared to people like the guy who owns Premier South Roofing and Cajun Contractors.

It's heavily rumored that they're the school having Jordan Addison esque issues with last year's class, and word travels fast because all these kids know each other.

Which to be clear, Jordan Addison esque issues means that the actual NIL deals are incentive based which was hidden from them pre signing.

Eh, A&M doesn't have much top end, but they're a top engineering school (might even be the best if you include quality and quantity) that largely sends their alumni to low cost of living areas. They have A LOT of ~60 year old alumni looking at their retirement accounts and seeing a number somewhere around 8 million, and if you put $50k here and there from them into a collective it adds up fast.

Also, you mentioned it and then pretended it's irrelevant, but buy in is the single most important factor here, and they have it. If it was just based off of who has the richest alumni, the college football landscape would be Stanford (who knows how many successful Silicon Valley start up founders) > Michigan (Larry Page) > Oregon (Phil Knight) > Michigan State (Dan Gilbert), and that's just not reality. In reality LSU became a national power the second LSU decided they were willing to put money into becoming one, and Georgia did the same thing when they hired Kirby Smart.
