Haven't heard too much from or about coach Steeples, so this is awesome to hear.

Love to hear this!

I would love for us to get back to signing all those top CB’s all over the country like we did a few years back.

Huh?? Since 09 we signed 3 out of state cb’s that were highly rated. All went undrafted and two transferred.

And recently we have not signed a top three cornerback, we got Denver Harris out the transfer portal, but straight from high school, we are not the same as when Corey Raymond was pulling the top 1-2 corners from anywhere in the country

besides Eli Ricks what OOS top CB did Raymond sign?

Also he signed like 3 true CBs over a 4 year period which decimated our depth

He definitely was able to grab a ton of high level guys in his career. I think it's also fair to say that a good chunk of those highly rated guys were, for one reason or another, either mis-evaluated or they weren't particularly well developed.

Toliver, Ricks, Paris, Joseph, Smith, Monroe, Harris, Hampton, Lewis, Mcghee, Voorheis, Mcglothern, Jones. Lots of dudes that either transferred out or didn't pan out like you'd have hoped.

I used to think Corey Raymond was one of the top DB coaches in college football.

Now, I am not so sure. As noted above, some of the highly rated DB's he recruited did not pan out as expected.

Not mine he was just reallly good of following the coattails or the previous defensive back coach that started it all and truly made us dbu. You know Ron cooper, he wasn’t the best recruiter but how he had our players playing and the attitude they carried on the field it’s like recruits flocked to him or actually LSU after he left. Although I don’t think he was even the best recruiter just the best coach we have had for that position in a long time. Corey Raymond was great at pulling a couple Florida kids though. He must have fricked some of y’all’s wives the way Corey Raymond rubs y’all the wrong way

Corey seems to want to be alpha for a DB coach but cannot coach his guys.
Our DB have some poor technique under Corey.

Scott finally called his bluff and didn’t cave. He had to leave

Corey Raymond was a terrible coach
But the LSU moniker under that time DBU was at an all time high, so it made Corey Raymond seem like the best DB coach in the country.

All I’m
Saying is I just wish we would spend money under Brian Kelly and be in it for the top recruits in the country again. BK thanks he can do this thing while being cheap on the payroll. I hope he is right and I hope I eat crow

I think Kelly doesn't give a frick about recruiting service rankings and he trusts his and his staff's evaluations over the services.

He also focuses much harder on Louisiana kids than Orgeron did, both in HS and in the portal. That strategy will continue to bear fruit for a very long time. These Louisiana guys all have brothers, cousins, and friends that will be recruits one day too. Creates familial allegiances and builds pipelines.
