Yes, and the kid is still in high school, and likely still growing. Yes or no?
No. The vast majority of all males quit growing well before 16. There are some exceptions but he is not likely still growing.

Didn’t King’s dad call LSU’s staff “clowns” or something to that point?? I read that in another post a while back, so I don’t remember the exact words.

This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Seriously. I have coached for over 20 years and can tell you this has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read. EVER.

"The vast majority QUIT growing WELL BEFORE 16" is 100% wrong

The height curve slows down around 15-16 but continues on the average till 17-19.
The weight curve continues well past 20 years old (which is also a part of growth).

Called them slapdicks because he was butthurt they never followed up on the offer. He was supposedly pissed off at Jimbo at one point too, but I guess they smoothed that over.

We heavily recruited Shea, it appears we passed on king, not really the same at all.

You would drop a commit to take a chance that maybe another commit may come here?

I don't want to sound like I'm trashing anyone, but I definitely scratch my head at the thought of a 6'8 260 pound QB.
Why would that worry you? I think that would worry opposing defenses a lot more.

Growth dramatically slows at around 16, but boys continue to grow until around 20. Assuming he's 17 now, he'll likely grow another inch at least.

The best QB in LSU history was 6’6” 260. As long as Finley keeps the weight down, he should be fine.

Isn’t Roethlisberger pretty tall?

ETA: he’s 6’5”. For some reason I thought he was closer to 6’7”

He’s 6’5” and probably weighs like 250. Adding an extra inch or two will have zero impact on Finley’s ability to play the position.

You mean the one who impressed at the elite 11?

You mean like Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris did?

In fairness he did it in a private text that was made public by the recipient. If I have a kid as good as King and some school that he's high on is slow playing him, I might say somethings derogatory about them to my friends in private.

But he was outplayed by king at that event...

I wanted King. Plays against way better competition than both of our commits and his tape looks way better. His running ability would fit great into our new offense. Don’t forget the kid finished 3rd at the elite 11, so he obviously has a great arm. Bring on the downvotes. I love it

Haynes King - #1 Dual Threat QB for 2020.

Overrated! There is no doubt in my mind Johnson will be a better college QB than King. With the poor blocking Johnson got last season it's amazing he can still walk. He constantly had pressure less than 3 seconds after the snap, and he still made plays. King had a much better supporting cast last season. You give Johnson over 3 seconds to throw and he'd have ungodly numbers and be a 5 star recruit. People don't factor a players supporting cast into their evaluations. Hell, Marshall Faulk ran for less than 600 yards his sr. year in HS. Only 1 school even offered him a spot at RB. And we all know how that turned out. He had poor blocking in HS. See what he did with adequate blocking. Same with Johnson.

What are the statistics on someone that size being a successful division 1 QB that won (or came close to) winning a championship?

Well, Jamarcus Russell was a successful D1 QB. 6'6" TO 6'8" QB's are far and few between. That height has nothing to do with how successful a QB they will or won't be. If anything, at the collegiate level, it's an advantage. Have you ever dropped back to pass over an offensive line that was 4 to 6 inches taller than you. It's difficult to see the field past them. A QB that's the same height as their oline can see the field much better. Some idiot will respond to this by argueing that Russel Wilson can see the field, that Drew Brees can see the field, I'm not saying a short QB can't see the field, I'm saying that taller QB's can see past their oline better than a shorter one. It's really basic physics. Angles, gaps in the oline, position of the QB in relation to the oline, these factors go a long way in shorter QB's seeing the field. But taller ones have an advantage since their eyes are higher so they are not looking at the backs of jerseys, they can see over the helmets of their olinemen.

quote:

But it's likely he will continue to put on weight/size

And why do you assume this? You assume because he is tall he will be lazy and not work out? IDK where this comes from.
