Has our staff considered recruiting internationally for D-Linemen?

Sometimes you can find some big nasties in foreign lands. Jesse Williams was a star nose tackle for Bama. He was from Australia.
Akeem Hicks almost signed with LSU from Canada but signed elsewhere for academic qualification reasons if I’m not mistaken.
It’s been such a lean year in Louisiana for defensive lineman and we’ve whiffed on the out of state guys from Texas and other states. Maybe we could find a player or two in a foreign land?

I don’t know but it would be great if we did. Especially guys from the Polynesian islands. Players from that region make the NFL at a higher rate than any other demographic.

There was a recruiting violation associated with Hicks - that was the reason we didn't sign him and he went to Canada. The LSU coach recruiting him was fired - don't recall who that was.

Have you considered not posting as much ?

D.J. McCarthy.

That was my first thought. Polynesian players are all over D1 and NFL. Ali Gaye and BJ Ojulari makes me think West Africa could be a future hot spot for raw players.

I just came in to downvote, seriously didn’t read there are not enough foreign players in history to make a DL. Stupid topic

You are insinuating that they played football, specifically in an equivalent to HS so they'd be noticed, in the west African lands.

Just when I thought I had read the dumbest post ever… I read this one

I think we should get some of those Vikings from the Nordic region. They seem really strong.

Some people don't realize how good D-line talent is in Louisiana.
There are a relative plethora of guys around 250-300 pounds with relatively small ankles and/or good movement skills, and quickness for that size. Or guys with the frame to be these kinds of players. You don't find that in other states as much, much less internationally.
There are some rarities out there, so it could work out at times. But they're aplenty at home. D-line, DBs, and offensive skill are plentiful in Louisiana. QB and OL, not as much. Maybe LB at times too.
Another strength for Louisiana that's underrated, and has often been missed on in recruiting, is in the return game. There are a bunch of undersized athletes with exceptional quickness and speed, or moves.
Darius Reynaud (1)
Phillip Livas (8)
Damaris Johnson (4)
KaVontae Turpin (6)
Derius Davis (6)
Jaylin Lucas (2)
That's 27 return TDs in college by those 6 guys, and Lucas has only played 1 season with Indiana. And there are more.
There's room on a college roster to take chances on these guys. These types of players give an offense unique opportunities for mismatches too. Just like any position, you'll have hits and misses. NFL teams usually carry one or a few of these guys for the return game and a role on offense, and they're much more limited as far as roster numbers.
International recruiting might work better in baseball, with LSU being relatively close to Latin American countries geographically.
