BRADENTON, Fla. – Harlem Berry can fly. There’s no questions about that. Not after Saturday morning.
The soon-to-be-junior won the fastest man competition at Under Armour’s annual Future 50 event with a 4.37 in the 40-yard dash.
Berry, who captured a Lousiana state title in the 100-meter dash with a 10.57 last month, beat Blake Woodby in a photo finish after clocking a 4.41 a few minutes prior in a semifinal heat.
?
What’s even more notable about Berry’s 4.37 is the fact that the time topped the 4.39 that Colorado running back signee Dylan Edwards ran at last year’s Future 50.
The Future 50 brings together roughly 50 of the nation’s top prospects for a day of competition at IMG Academy. This year's edition features just recruits from the class of 2025. And while there is no formal testing for participants, but the UA staff usually has some of the top skill players race each other after the opening workout of the day.
?
Berry, who checks in as the Top247’s No. 10 running back in the 2025 cycle, is coming off a sophomore campaign at Metairie (La.) St Martin's Episcopal School in which he averaged just over 15 yards per carry, totaling 1,494 yards and 29 touchdowns on the ground.
The 247Sport’s Crystal Ball favors LSU early on for Berry, but Brian Kelly and the Tigers aren’t the only ones pushing for the speedster as Berry told Brian Dohn of 247Sports that he’s also communicating a lot with coaches at Florida, Texas and Oklahoma. Berry added that he has recently spent time in Baton Rouge, Gainesville and Austin.

Ponder this …
Harlem Berry wins fastest man competition with a 4.37, he’s only 16 yrs old and is gonna get bigger, faster, and stronger
2023 NFL Combine RB’s
Devon Achane, Texas A&M – 4.32
Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama – 4.36
Keaton Mitchell, East Carolina – 4.37
Deneric Prince, Tulsa – 4.41
Chase Brown, Illinois – 4.43

There's so many high school who have NFL level 40s but don't end up running faster at the combine. It's probably a combination of favorable timing in high school and the body not being able to move as fast with greater muscle mass. He's fast no doubt, but I feel like every year we compare HS 40s to the NFL and it just never pans out the way people expect.

wasn't it Gibbs that Major B. caught from behind in our win?
eta: sorry, it was McClelland

Trust me I know, but when dudes start comparing high school 40s to the combine and expect kids to be faster 4-5 years from then in their 40 and it just doesn't work out that way. We had a kid who ran an amazing 40 at the LSU camp and he was a legit track star too. He went to LSU and is still playing in the NFL. Guess what, he never ran faster than his high school camp times.

Nephew of Fla RB coach Jabbar Juluke.

I still think it is completely insane that he isn't a 5 star, top 20 player on every service.

quote:Devin White ran a 4.49 at the opening at 6ft 255. At the combine he ran a 4.42 at 237. That seemed to work out. This "Top 50" is sorta like the Opening

That train has long left the station - 2 years to be exact. College coaches and recruiters told Harlem to stay where he is. Focus on your education since STM is one of the top academic schools in the city. The CFB recruiting world already knows about his talent from film, camps, and 7on7 competition.
When the Berry family was moving out of the East, his parents reached out and visited with representatives at St. Aug (dad is an alum) and Curtis about enrolling and playing sports. Harlem was then in 8th grade and only played 1 year of tackle football. He primarily played soccer growing up. Both Aug & Curtis indicated he didn't have enough film and only offered minimal assistance, basically they were turned away. The Berry's then visited with St. Martin's who accepted Harlem and offered the family financial assistance. No one could have predicted how this would turn out. St. Martin's gave him an opportunity that other schools passed on. The Berry's are happy and Harlem doesn't have to transfer to another HS to improve his recruiting stock. The kid is elite and has the numbers/film to back it up.
I first saw Harlem in person when he was a 14-year-old FR. He stood out on the field as you could tell he had "it". People I spoke with who have been involved with HS/CFB recruiting for decades told me he would be a 50-offer kid since he was raw and only gonna get better.

How tough will UF be in this recruitment? Just read that Juluke is his uncle
