But I thought players hated him and he'll be gone in 2 years? Seems to be the words of a few around this board. Which I find laughable.

I hope he likes the warm weather we had last week vs snow in Indiana, Ohio.

currently, his top 4 include LSU, ND, arky, vandy.
lots of SEC schools could be a tip off to how he is thinking. looks good for us but only time will tell.

We share the same perception of Kelly:
commentators taking note:
LINK
and MichiganZone's funny take of the same event: LINK
At least Kelly did not spank his player as Saban the Ranter has done:
LINK
Here Saban rationalizes his anger by saying his approach is appropriate for pros:
LINK
One has to wonder about the psyche of a recruit who knowingly chooses a coach who will treat him this abusively. There are better ways to teach the same things, ways that respect human dignity.
added thought: The kid who needs this type of abuse to develop his skills has some dysfunctional mental issues that would not enhance the Tigers' locker room. The kid who chooses a Kelly or a Saban would not develop and likely harm our team. Head cases we can do without. Some people need a tyrant to live under. We don't want those people.

If you were trying to change the losing attitude that has been present for the last 20 years at ND and aren't living up to the high expectations you expect out of your players I am sure you would be yelling too.
That's not even mentioning that they are 3rd to last in the whole country in turnover margin. I have no problems with him ripping them when they consistently screw up. Seems to work in the military.

If BK = Blair Kiel, than I totally agree - those family ties are very hard to cut.

Kelly hasn't exactly been great in handling his QB's this year
LSU has a chance but I think when all is said and done he stays closer to home
His thinking with LSU, Mettenberger plays next two years unless he absolutely blows up next year and goes pro, Randall gets moved to WR or CB or Ath, I'm one/two with Rivers. Les is not afraid to play more than one QB. The oline recruits and current fr in the program ensure my stability and I will always have a solid running game to make my life easier.

oh my, did you forget to put on your vagisil today? this is football not summer dancing lessons. if you have ever played competitive sports before you would know that coaches yell, coaches scream, its part of the culture. for one to think gunner is or is not going to come to notre dame because BK yells at his QBs would be borderline insanity.

Coach Miles did not yell when he changed the losing mindset at Oklahoma State. Yelling is not required for teaching. It is required by angry people who take any opportunity to vent.

Were they 3rd to last before Kelly was coach?

That is true, tyranny works where rights are denied. Military discipline can be effective under certain circumstances. The question is are those circumstances compatible with places of higher learning, places where freedom is valued? Do you want players who need to be coerced into playing better or players who choose to play better? You can have all of the former type; Tigers are better off with only the latter. Any kid who chooses a coach with Saban Syndrome is good riddance: he would not fit in and likely soil team psyche.

A coach doesn't have to be a douche to get the players to play right. Players won't play for coaches that are dicks for no reason or if the coaching cannot motivate correctly. Why has Notre Dame choked so often this year? The only bigger choke than ND is TAMU.

well that would actually be florida state.
anywhoo. are you attempting to argue that players wont play for coach saban because he yells at his players? have you ever played competitive sports before? my god man, coaches yell. gunner kiel was quite high on alabama earlier this year and im sure he was well aware that coach saban screams at his players. this overly sensitive nonsense to coaches yelling is very amusing though.

Agreed. Different players react to different motivation. It's good to know a coach's on-field personality, but the intense personna works for some. I like Miles' disposition but that's not to say it's the only way to act.

A Notre Dame fan lecturing a tiger fan about football. That's choice. We watch the best team in the land play football and we don't see yelling or screaming. The culture YOU see is losing football. There are petty tyrants coaching in all sports at all levels. There are also positive mentors who teach while preserving human dignity. You like tyrants? Bully for you -- literally.

If teaching style is irrelevant to him and his parents, you can have him. But what is in fact borderline insanity is an out-of-control coach berating and humiliating a kid on national TV for a mistake the kid did not intend to make. You are confused about what is borderline insanity and about what is an appropriate "culture" for teaching anything -- including football.

But Lets imagine if he accepts a Redshirt. OMG. It will be perfect. Mett/Randall next 2 years then. Then 3 years with Kiel at the Helm.
if Kiel is smart he would red shirt his Fr year if he came to LSU bc i don't think he would beat mett for the starting spot and if he red shirted that would give him a whole year to get bigger faster and stronger while mastering the playbook..... and even if mett stayed two years till he graduated that would put Kiel as a RS sophomore and Randall at a senior which would be QB dominance

Posted on 11/30/11 at 2:13 pm to BayouHeat0414
bad idea, Kiel needs to play in year 1 at LSU. get his feet wet and get speed of game. he won't be around more than 4 years so why waste a year on a redshirt.
