it's obvious the Florida is saying we're some sort of regional accreditation whereas they are nationally
Florida is also accredited by the SACS. AAU is different than accreditation.

I'm with you regarding that LSU should pursue it. I should have been more specific as to why it is not a big deal. There are several accreditations and memberships which are much more important of which LSU is indeed a member. If 13 of the SEC schools were AAU members then yes it would certainly be a big deal. I don't think it's a big deal as far as recruiting a football player especially since most of our main competition ( Arky, Bama, FSU , Auburn, etc) aren't AAU either.

Isn't LSU one of only a handful of universities in the country that are Land, Sea AND Space grant institutions?
Point is, every school has some sort of twist on why they're better.

AAU schools usually are involved in high levels of research. It really doesn't have much to do with undergrad. B1G schools all tout it though. "Hey, we suck at football but we are almost all AAU."

I did find it funny how much it was talked about for Nebraska when they were brought into the B1G, and then the next year they lost it.

No doubt UF is a better school. But, in the end, it's about where you feel the most comfortable. I'm glad he picked us. Hopefully his commitment sticks.

LSU achieved "tier 1" status in the US News & World Report rankings 3-4 years ago. I'm not up to speed on college and university academic rankings and their interworkings but I think this means we're in the top 150.
Yes, there's room for improvement but we've also made some good strides over the last few years. Good work LSU Admin!

Just want to add that this is a really good, well-informed thread. And that Florida coaches are a bunch of liars.

That was before Jindal cut LSU's funding to the bone.

Some of Muschamp's BS.
However, we could do a little better that tied for last place amongst tier 1. I would feel better if we could just crack 100.

I taught at LSU and the University of Maryland. As far accreditation is concerned, there is not a difference between the 2 schools. In fact LSU is in top 5 in fields like Petroleum Engineering. I don't know what he was talking about but schools like LSU are way beyond most football players need academically.

I think he was talking about Education specifically. Maybe I didn't hear that right.

No it's not. REGIONAL accreditation is what really matters. The vast majority of schools aren't nationally accredited, mainly because they don't need to be. Harvard, Yale, Stanford and plenty of other great schools are only regionally accredited. Why would they waste money and time on a misconception around national accreditation. Most schools won't even accept all transfer credits from nationally accredited schools

kind of like the recruit asking how many books in your college library of course the comeback is how many are you planning on reading during your college career.
degree gets your foot in the door what you do after that is much more important than the degree as long as it from a well known institution.
