Give the Staff Credit for Getting Recruits on Campus

I was where DD reported that all of the 2009 recruits are actually eligible to enroll and play at LSU. That seems like a pretty unusual accomplishment these days. Hat's off to the coaching staff to making their scholarship offers count.

It is quite an accomplishment in this day and time.

getting them here is the easy part..imo
developing them into good college players is where the credit should come in..jmo

im not being a nega-tiger at all but its just the truth..this is tt's 4th yr here..can you honestly say he's played like the big recruit he was or better yet has he progressed since his freshman yr? he's a hell of a player but he could have been a who;e lot better, maybe this yr he shows it

TT has not done what I expected, but I think with good oline and qb play ( something we havnt had since 07) he would have lived up to the hype. This year maybe!

quote:And yet he still put up better numbers than Julio Jones last year... a player most consider one of the best WR's in college football. TT has progressed very well. The fact is when he came into the program he weighed less than 185 lbs and we had 4-5 WR's in front of him who are all on NFL rosters right now. We basically burned his freshman year for a hand full of plays. How would you think of his progression if he had been red-shirted and he had put up last years numbers as a RS-sophomore instead of a junior. As much raw ability as TT had coming in he was way too thin at 6'4" and needed a couple years of maturing before becoming a starter.

Really? His freshman year he "wasn't 100%" either -- but during his freshman year that was evidence of how good he was.
So which is it?

Let's look at the numbers shall we...
2009 stats:
NAME REC YDS YPR LONG TD
1. Shay Hodge, Ole Miss 70 1135 16.2 65 8
2. Darvin Adams, Auburn 60 997 16.6 72 10
3. Riley Cooper, Florida 51 961 18.8 80 9
4. Greg Childs, Arkansas 48 897 18.7 75 7
5. Aaron Hernandez, Florida 68 850 12.5 64 5
6. A.J. Green, Georgia 53 808 15.2 65 6
7. Brandon LaFell, LSU 57 792 13.9 58 11
8. Alshon Jeffery, S Carolina 46 763 16.6 80 6
9. Terrance Toliver, LSU 53 735 13.9 45 3
10. Jarius Wright, Arkansas 41 681 16.6 58 5
11. Gerald Jones, Tennessee 46 680 14.8 51 4
12. Julio Jones, Alabama 43 596 13.9 73 4
Now I assume we can agree Julio's long catch (73 yards) and 1 of the TDs can be discounted IF PP was fully healthy, but I digress.
2009 SEC Total Offense ranks:
TEAM G YDS YPG RUSH RYPG PASS PYPG PTS PTS/G
1. Florida 14 6410 457.9 3105 221.8 3305 236.1 502 35.9
2. Auburn 13 5613 431.8 2756 212.0 2857 219.8 430 33.1
3. Arkansas 13 5558 427.5 1713 131.8 3845 295.8 466 35.8
4. Alabama 14 5642 403.0 3011 215.1 2631 187.9 449 32.1 5. Mississippi 13 5231 402.4 2387 183.6 2844 218.8 384 29.5
6. Tennessee 13 4985 383.5 2043 157.2 2942 226.3 381 29.3
7. Mississippi State 12 4463 371.9 2731 227.6 1732 144.3 305 25.4
8. Georgia 13 4708 362.2 2093 161.0 2615 201.2 376 28.9
9. South Carolina 13 4516 347.4 1576 121.2 2940 226.2 266 20.5
10. Kentucky 13 4310 331.5 2486 191.2 1824 140.3 339 26.1
11. Vanderbilt 12 3680 306.7 1924 160.3 1756 146.3 194 16.2
12. LSU 13 3959 304.5 1596 122.8 2363 181.8 323 24.8
So, from an offense that was far inferior according the the numbers, LSU had 2 receivers with better stats than Julio. It would then stand to reason they may be at least as good as Julio, if not better.
As far as your "he was injured some of the year" argument, if you can't play then you obviously can't start. So thank you for supporting my point.
Oh, and thanks ESPN for the info

This is TT's first year as the #1 receiver. He should produce.
He has been behind some pretty good upperclassman receivers throughout his career. You really didn't expect him to take their place or outproduce them did you?
Posted on 8/3/10 at 7:13 pm to ItTakesAThief
TT has done well. We've had bad quaterback play, and last year, we had some of the worst o-line play in my LSU watching history. Considering all of those things, I think TT has performed well.
Anyway, the point of this thread was that the coaching staff is doing a good job of recruiting players who will actually wear an LSU jersey. Not all of them will pan out, but they have no chance of panning out if they never get on campus. Give credit where credit it due.

Good job by those in jeopardy of doing the work to get their grades up, or test scores higher.
