there are a lot of 3 stars out there, and these guys are exceptional athletes. Especially if they are tweeners, guys who were assigned a 4th star by one or more recruiting services. in other words, the higher ranked 3 stars are going to be better on average as well.

The only real gripes are we should have added 1 elite player at corner and DT to complement what we took. I have no problem with any player we signed this year. Plus still have the portal.
I'm not talking about the actual signing class. Im talking about nerds looking up a post from years ago where someone said a payer "should" be 3 stars as opposed to 5 stars and arguing how right/wrong they were. meaningless.

But it's not a rigid statistic.
It's the best predictor of championship success that we have. Over the last 15-20 years (when recruiting rankings started to become a "thing") virtually every national champion shared one thing in common...they had multiple top 10 recruiting classes in a 4 year period.
There is panic (from some) that LSU's current class is ranked outside the top 10, and dismissiveness (from others) that the ranking outside the top 10 is irrelevant. But, like most thing in life, reality lies somewhere in between (a notion many on the Rant apparently can't consider).
If LSU was annually compiling classes ranked outside of the top 10 then yes, it would be a very big deal because the data says you can't win a championship doing so. But one class outside of the top 10 within multiple classes that are is not reason for panic. The 2021 class was in the top 10. As was the 2023 class. Indications are the 2025 class could be really good. So, if 2024 is the "worst" class LSU signs over a 4 year period it's not a huge deal. However, if classes outside of the top 10 become commonplace, then yes, that will be a concern because that likely means LSU doesn't have a real shot to win a championship.
