They 100% matter. You will have great players that are 3 stars.

Stats show though you need them elite players to win in this day and age of college football.

2019 had 10 five stars 8 of them started on the first 22. The other 2 were John Emery and Marcel Brooks.

2019 team had 21 top 100 players on that team.

7 started on offense and 8 on started on defense.
So of the top 100 players 15 out of the 22 starters on the National Championship team were top players.

So of course rating and stars matter.

Any detailed analysis of that 2019 roster always gets me fired up. What a fricking team that was.

Have people been bitching about recruiting? It’s July and we have a pretty good class so far. Our class last year was full of guys that were impactful too

Before that season, Burrow was projected by everyone as a 6th round or lower draft choice. Clyde was really low, if drafted at all. Joe elevated everyone’s game to another level. What he and that team done that year was nothing short of amazing. If Joe doesn’t show up at LSU in 2018, how does that draft go? It was the perfect storm. The stars aligned, too many good things fell into place.
That was a team at the end of the season, that could beat anyone. The most fun to watch.
I’ll never see another one like that 2019 team. Best team ever? I’ll let this guy tell you!

Best team ever, LSU

The transfer portal is as big as HS recruiting, as long as the overfall needs are met things might look a bit different going forward

No doubt, but Kelly still wants high school kids, but doesn’t mind falling back on the portal.

I’ll explain how stars matter. Bama and Gawga have beat the shite out of all the other teams in recruiting. Saban has won a lot but based on recruiting should never lose.
Gawga has been recruiting at Saban level since he arrived and has more recently started winning ships, but it took some time. I would bet if Kelly was #1 in recruiting twice in a year we would win two ships.
I truly believe we have better coaches and trainers. Give Kelley the same players and he would beat them both. It’s proven 4* home grown boys here become 5* men on the field.
I think if we stay around 5 get good QB, DL, OL, with a top pass rusher we beat there arse with all there #1 and #2 classes

Totally agree.

I believe we have better coaches who develop players.
I just don't want them to be able to keep throwing players out there who can play because of being blue chippers to make up for the difference in development.

I obviously can't donate a lot but I have donated.

I’m rich and haven’t donated jack shite and I’m not going to. I’m not paying to have a good team to root for. Frick that. I stopped watching pro football, and as college turns into that I’ll stop watching that. I’ll start going to Rummel, Jesuit and Brother Martin games.

THIS! College athletes are not where I want to invest any money. It’s just something to do on Saturday but it doesn’t have a major effect on my life or happiness. I love LSU baseball more than football and I loved it before the best players started showing up but even still I’m not throwing money to help them in NIL. If it goes back to real amateur sports I’ll still enjoy it.

For the record I’m doing ok, but I’m not Penrod rich! ??

I don't know what recruiting site that you get your info from, but 7 Top 100 players on offense is a bit of a stretch.

According to 247 Composite

QB Burrow #295
RB CEH #393
TE Moss #383
WR Jefferson Not ranked in the composite
WR Marshall #13
WR Chase #84
OT Charles #267
OT Deculus #48
OG Ingram #201
OG Lewis Not ranked in the composite
OC Cushinberry Not ranked in the composite
Swing OL Magee #416

That is 3 Top 100 players, not 7.
That is 3 Top 200 players, not 7.
That is 6 Top 300 players, not 7.
That is 8 Top 400 players
That is 9 Top 500 players, with 3 unranked in the composite coming out of high school.

Your numbers are more aligned with what I saw from that team. Like I said, what Joe did, he elevated everyone’s game. The defense stepped up.
Joe didn’t stop there, he’s taken Cincy to another level.

I think having a monthly Tigerdroppings boxing match would generate a lot of revenue towards the collective. Put the keyboards aside and put the gloves on baws. $10 entry, $2 for a piss bomb to hurl at the loser.

Everywhere Kelly has been, he’s built a program, his resume speaks for itself. No coach did more with less last season. He was left with a cluster. To do what was done with what he inherited, nothing short of amazing.
Go look at the 5* players on last years roster. Maybe starts don’t matter.

If you're not an alter then you're one of those fans from The Rant. You know, the ones who over-react to everything good or bad but take some sick interest in promoting every little negative thing about our program, who's favorite player is always the back-up quarterback and has a full fledged catastrophe disorder.

It's like you're not happy unless you're shite talking our Tigers. I'd be willing to bet you've never set foot on campus, except for maybe the stadium, and contribute nothing to their success, aside from shite posting on a message board and even if every word I said was true wouldn't admit it for all the back up QBs in the world.

If you call that supporting the University, then you don't know the meaning of the word.
