I thought I saw someone say a few texas recruits was trying to get out of NLI after Coach Bo Davis left. Anyone know if true? Saw Melvin just post recently.

Yeah which is why he said they are trying to get out of the NLI.

They can hit the portal after Spring if they really want but would use one of their 2 (for now) transfers.

I can't remember where I saw it from yesterday. I think it was basically because of Coach Bo Davis was leaving Texas. They didn't say players name just said a couple players was trying to get out of NLI but it wasn't that simple.

Davis isn't a head coach so the rule regarding the Bama kids doesn't factor. They'd have to request a release and if denied it would cost a transfer and make Texas kids ineligible for SEC to SEC transfer for next season.

If they've started school. If not still would need a release from Texas.

I know that I asked had anyone else heard the rumor. The person that put it on X stated it wasn't that simple to get out off.

I know college rules he can ask doesn't mean they have to do it.

They should give them an out when a true freshman is coming to new school and his main recruiting guy is leaving, Js!! U go through a process and trust the coach who is treating u like his own kid to get you there, then he leaves to go to ur home state school, sucks for Melvin, but then again, it’s why u preach to stay close to home

I think if Bo had known what was going to happen, he would have at least hinted Melvin and his family to postpone his signing. Melvin is raw and will need some development but he is a big physical kid. Mostly he just needs to be coached about things like gap integrity.

It would be nice to get him though, his ceiling is pretty high, IMO. I used to sit by his uncles when my son and I would attend LCA games, they would point out his every flaw to me

He had coaches (not actual coaches, just guys who understood his position very well) in his family giving him crap at home every day I think he has a brother and a cousin who also play DL who may be pretty good in the next couple of years.

Feel for the kids when this happens but they really need to learn to fall in love with and commit to the school and not a coach. The school ain’t going anywhere. The coach could be gone tomorrow

Meh. When is Texas officially in the SEC? Certainly not by this spring.

Texas isn’t in SEC until the fall. They can enter the spring portal as far as I know

Do we know this for sure? Texas isn’t officially part of the SEC yet. They just finished their last season in the Big 12 in football, but they will still be playing spring sports until baseball and track end. Wouldn’t they officially be considered part of the conference after the academic year, then?

I haven’t seen any official answer on this, but it’s possible that players could leave Texas or OU for the portal in the spring period and still be eligible to play at an SEC school. It really comes down to whether the league office has a gentleman’s agreement with them to consider them part of the conference ahead of them actually moving over.
