I realize he played lower level competition at LA Tech but his highlight reel is kinda absurd lol. Very HoneyBadgeresque.

He had a LOI from LSU in his possession on NSD. He opted to stick with his commitment to La Tech.

Answer is YES.

I believe he visited and LSU offered in the end but it was too late in the process and he stuck with LA Tech

while I wish he would have been a Tiger in hindsight, I think he turned out fine at LA Tech. my fear was that he would have been lost in the shuffle with Greedy, Fulton, Stingley, etc., and never have been able to shine like he did there. He was one of the top 3 highest rated corners in the country along with Stingley this year

LSU offered Amik. During his recruiting visit, Amik asked Coach O if he would see immediate playing time as a true freshman. Coach O told Amik due to the depth at the CB position, he would likely redshirt his first year.

Coach Holtz told Amik he would start immediately and see lots of playing time as a true FR. Amik was sold on the idea and committed to LA Tech. Amik could have committed to LSU but chose to sign with LA Tech. It was all about playing time for Amik. Coach O was honest based on the players who were already ahead of him on the LSU depth chart.

What most don’t realize is Amik became a father when he was 15 yrs old and he had to grow up fast. His goal was to attend college for 3 yrs, get immediate playing time to showcase his talent for scouts, and get to the NFL ASAP to give his family a better life.

There was lots of debate on this board about him. LSU DB offers usually go to taller DBs, so there were some who thought that his HS success wouldn't quite translate to the college game. Others were sure that we were missing out on a star.

As others have said, we ended up offering late, and he stuck with the team that loved him first, and it's turned out well for him.

But with us having Greedy and Fulton last year, and with Fulton and Stingley this year, it's not as though we haven't had great corners. I think that Amik would've played at LSU, but the competition would've been interesting.

We probably would have won the National Championship this year if he had been on the team.

He was the missing piece.

The "what if" is valid on this one since LSU came so close.

I remember watching his highlight film and saying the same thing about playing like honeybadger. I knew Tech was getting gamechanger.

Some players will wait on their dream school even until the last minute if it means that can sneak into the class.
Some players don't like to be put in that position and I can certainly understand that.
Robertson felt like he wanted to stick with LA Tech who stayed with him the whole process and there's nothing wrong with that.
In the end, he's getting his chance with the NFL.

2017: he would have had to win against a RS frsh greedy Williams. The real battle would have been nickelback vs Kary.

2018: fulton and greedy starting cbs, same battle vs kary for the slot. But, he would have played against UCF. Kelvin Joseph played a lot that year, maybe amik would have played that role.

2019: stingley took over, if Fulton had declare to the draft in 2018, maybe amik would have played in 2019 as starting cb (he is better than kelvin Joseph)

So if he wanted playing time as a fresh, he just would have neeeded beat a unproven greedy or kary in the slot.

Amik would've 100% started over Kary this year.

ETA:

We ended up winning a few games anyway without him.

People tend to shite on Kary but once he made the move to safety he really became an asset.

He got better as the year went on, no doubt. He went from liability to asset.

But Amik is an All-American type player in Kary's spot in our defense IMO. He's just an awesome football player.

He easily beats out Vincent.

Easily beats out Vincent and Joseph for P.T.

Again probably starts at NB, would just do a ton of damage there

Think he would have been a 3 years starter here, or at least 2 years with a lot of playing time freshman year.
