Burton Tweet

Well I guess not an apology, just a correction.

quote:

@BobbyBurton247
Correction: UGa has submitted Evans’ paperwork to the NCAA per two 247Sports sources. As a reminder, LOI’s bind a player to the school, not the school to the player. And he has signed with UGa.
Just for the record, I did not base anything I said off of anything Burton (247 guy, not the WR) tweeted, then or now.

Now I know it's not really my place to question an expert, being a 247 guy and all, but I have 2 issues with that tweet:

1. LOI's are not submitted to the NCAA. They are submitted to the conference by the school; failing that in cases such as the school not being in a conference, it goes directly to the NLI board/foundation. In both cases, by the school only following the recruit countersigning it (schools signs first).

2. LOI's are indeed, if signed, countersigned, and submitted to conference/NLI board, binding for both the school and the recruit. The recruit promises to attend, the school promises financial aid. That's why it triggers the 'initial counter' on the 25. That's why a properly processed ends the recruiting process, makes the recruit a player, and then forbids any other school from contacting the recruit.

So his correction has two factual errors. The question is, being a 247 expert and all, was it intentional for 'disinformation' purposes or just accidental standard dumbassery.

Are you suggesting the guys at 247 post things as click bait and purposely mislead people to make money?

oh no, I'd never suggest that!

I'm suggesting Burton did it to help UGA and stay in favor with Evans, not for anything pertaining to reporting facts, objective or not.

Burton is from Houston... he's helping Evans, not reporting.

Not a defense of 247 because on this sort of detail they generally don't know their shite. A LOI is conditioned and doesn't guarantee admission to a university. So in this sense they are not bound. 2nd, once valid it will count against the signee limits, not the initial counter limits. These are separate things. You can't become a counter until you actually receive aid.

This is your problem right here. I don't think these guys are experts at much. Sure, they might "work hard" to get close to recruits, but this doesn't make them experts at anything.

Your statement is true, but who is being a dip? The comment you are replying to is spot on.

I don’t think you’re allowed to go on official visits without taking the ACT. So don’t believe the whole ACT story.
