No one's bagging on the kid. We just can't believe someone was offered in this day and age that no one has ever heard of before. I guess it's hard to know anything when he only played in 3 games his junior year though.
That being said, did he have a season ending injury or something?

I hear you and understand many being puzzled.
I guess I'm cool with it because of the track record that Miles has established thus far. That counts for something. (even though I'd sure like to know about the Storm matter; Pratt matter, etc.)
Folks are talking about Selma the way Kiffin spoke about Pahokee and South Carolina. The same ones that thought Kiffin was such a jerk for doing that and here we are a few months later - doing the same thing. That's not the comparison/representation that those out there busting their butts for P&G deserves.
That's all I'm getting at. Be puzzled - but keep it together. I know it's late and that has something to do with the posts, too.

These coaches spend alot of time on the road, away from their families doing what we try to do from the edge of our couch/bed on a nice laptop with fastest DSL speed that AT&T offers. Even if they did miss on a recruit, they still deserve a pat on the back. Miles and this staff Has To Produce because of last season. You think they're going to play with scholarships?
They chose the coaching profession--they knew what they were getting into and they are reimbursed very well for their efforts and sacrifices.

Does the words: spoiled, hypocritical, fair -weather, unappreciative, ungrateful, etc. fit some us on this message board? (including myself)- I'm just asking...
When LA is one of the hottest beds for talent (and is surrounded on every side by other states loaded with top shelf talent) in the country without any in state competition, has top tier facilities, a top 10 game day atmosphere, and top tier fan support, then yes, we as fans can have very high expectations from the schools football program.
-------
I do not mean to be shunning Blackmon b/c none of us know anything about this cat, so that in and of itself is our main concern.
With technology and the size of recruiting now, we have at least heard of just about everyone LSU is associated with in the recruiting game.

I don't know if you are referring to me since I mentioned Selma, but you are taking it the wrong way if you are. The fact that he's from Selma is one of the plausible good explanations for this. It's a small, poor town where he's going to get no exposure at all, so it would make some sense that he has no profile on Rivals.

People keep talking about how this kid lives in Selma, the middle of nowhere, and that is why no one has ever heard of him. Selma may be in the middle of nothing but it is nonetheless in the middle of ALABAMA. There are loads of serious football programs to the north, south, east, and west. Saban is a pretty good recruiter and this kid lives in his backyard. And no one has heard of him, other than Troy. And we offer him before he has played a down his senior year. I'm not saying he is not any good, I'm just saying this move is very puzzling.
And to the poster who said no one had heard of Sam Gibson before he committed to us...I assure you that anyone who follows HS football in Alabama knew about Sam Gibson. He is the leader of a powerhouse football factory.
I love Les. I think Les is a damn good coach and a damn good recruiter. But he is not infallible. Les is capable of being wrong, just like anyone. Les thought it was a good idea to have Mallory and Peveto as co-DCs...they were both ready, good to promote from within, etc.
Just wondering about this one. I'm spoiled. I expect nothing but the best and to take on any program in the country.

Colts - you can't often tell who means what on the internet. I just read the thread and it reminded me of Kiffin. No biggie.
Lynx - the coaches did choose this profession and are paid handsomely. That's why I posted and underlined that they "have to produce" because what happened last season. I don't think they would play with their livelihood - especially in a down economy.
We not only have a loaded football program for the next few years, we're putting out NFL 1st round picks, just won the CWS, had 4 or 5 MLB signees from the starting lineup, SEC basketball title, women's track, etc.
I'm just saying that we are sitting pretty fat, but you wouldn't know it by some of the posts. Though the investment was made to improve facilities, etc., that you mentioned, it has alot to do with those guys that are willing to get up early - go to bed late - train non-stop - deal with various injuries - academics, etc. while we cheer, support and unfortunately, unfairly criticize. Not to mention how some of the revenue that comes off of these young men's efforts support other areas of the university's operations.
I'm puzzled about Blackmon, too. Not enough to send the FBI to Selma, though. (j/k). I'll take our situation over Tenn, AU, and countless others anyday.
We'll be fine if Blackmon's a Tiger or not.

I'm sure someone in Alabama knows who Blackmon is as well. The comment was because not many "on TD.com" were aware of who Gibson was - just like Blackmon. They were making very similar comments until he became a 4*. He had no big-time offers, just like Mathieu or Blackmon.
On the "spoiled" remark, that's cool. You must have not been around in the 80's and 90's. If so, you'd just be excited and enjoy the current state and future of the program. Ask Aggie fans, if they appreciate stability and winning more now than when they experienced it consistently under RC Slocum - whom some were trying to run out town. Ask Bama about Dubose, Shula, Franchione, Price, etc. - You get my point.
No beef here. Just sharing my point as we all are. We all root for the same school and team.

I hear what you are saying. I don't remember the 80s but I do remember the 90s. And I never want to go back. NEVER.

Motherfrickers are gonna have a stroke when they see this in the morning.

I don't want to go back, either.
Miles and the new coaches on defense know that they have to pony-up and sooner rather than later. Especially, with salaries that are above the norm because 8-5 is not cool anymore in Death Valley.
I wish that I could say that this commit is no surprise, but it is. I'm just going to reserve my thoughts until the young man has had a chance.
(root beer)
Yeah - when the "heavy-hitters" see this in the morning, some may be late to work or may take the day off
