Not having reached out to him until today since Raymond was let go is just completely unacceptable. How do you not reach out immediately to a 5 star CB who has you in his Top 3 schools. Smh

Exactly. This was a great year for a coaching change as far a in state talent. We're probably going to lose 3 or 4 top 12 guys, but it's a luxury to be able to get guys like Allen and Ibetia this late in the cycle. I assume there are a few other SEC caliber guys we can go after as well.

What has Kerry Cooks been doing? I haven’t seen any pics of him with recruits or heard anything about him besides the salary.

From everything I’ve read most recruits have seemed to be impressed with Kelly.

Regardless of what happens with this class, it’s nice to have confidence in the long term outlook of our program again.

What are they going to tell him though? Hey we don't have a DB coach or DC but come on down

Yea I don’t know why my post got downvotes lol

I didn’t mean it as a slight to any of those kids. Just meant it reminded me of when Saban took guys like Corey Webster and Devery Henderson after he got hired. Guys that had been overlooked or passed on by previous staff but still obviously guys that made an impact

Louisiana produces so much talent it’s crazy. You could probably sign a top 25 class with just Louisiana kids

Since he's not the DB coach I guess he doesn't need to meet with Denver

The fact that he's not signing tomorrow give a little bit of hope.

This gives me a LOT of hope. I'm taking this as he wanted to be at LSU until Raymond left and now, instead of rushing into a decision he's not 100% on (A&M) he's willing to take his time and let us get our staff together.

I'm ready to get hurt again.

I think what's helping us is that Elko left. He may be waiting to see who LSU and AM hire.

I thought Alabama was in the mix too though?

Hope we get coaches in place soon to make a hard run at him, he's the real deal.

Especially on a highly recruited player.

Agreed. It is generally code for "they need to make a stronger offer at the negotiating table."

I know LSU is different this year because a new staff is in place, but it's not like these schools started recruiting these kids 2 weeks ago. The highly rated prospects have been recruited for years. They've likely visited the schools several times already. Thus, they know what the school and city/town is like. They know the school wants them to be a part of the team (otherwise they would not have offered a scholarship). I can't imagine a veteran HC in Brian Kelly is thinking "eh, I'll call a him (a top prospect) if I have some time later in the week."

The sad reality is that many times it is not fully left to the kids to make the decision. They know they have a desirable skill (football talent) that is in demand by people with significant financial resources. Unfortunately, so do their families and other grifters. Thus, the family/grifters get involved in the recruiting for their OWN self-interest rather than letting the kid decide where he wants to attend college.

I understand what you're saying, but in this context, I don't think it's a bad thing. Tack is an LSU guy. He's just probably being honest about the situation with no ulterior motive. Seems like he would like to see Denver at LSU, so he's more coming at it from a fan's perspective.

After the Boutte thread, you're probably just on some people's auto-downvote list

Folks that think Kelly is somehow methodically working down a calculated list that includes zero mistakes are wrong. I'm glad we finally have a coach that is interviewing candidates and making adult hires but there have been a handful of head scratching things for me so far w/ this being another one. If RossD and company are true about Kelly being our 3rd option as late as the A&M game followed by his staff staying at ND for promotions and no recruits following him when we figured we should expect attrition then this thing hasn't gone exactly how Scott would have like and its ok to admit it is affecting this class a great deal. Solidifying our committed local guys is a priority I agree but seeing the west load up on your 5 star targets, "YOUR" 4 and 5 star transfers and a few other 4/5 stars from other schools, it really knocks the wind out of you. Also a coincidence how Shazz said he hadn't heard from anyone and them got a call that same day too.

Given the source, I wouldn’t think it’s made up.

Or, and hear me out, it's not true.

Under Kelly so far, there’s been a lot of lack of communication. You can be skeptical, but at this point, it’s coming from a lot of different sources about current coaches and recruits, which leads me to believe it’s true.
