Would be a huge get but unless his price has come down over the past couple weeks I don't see LSU being in his wheelhouse for NIL value....After withdrawing from the NBA draft his agent reached out to let schools know he’s looking for a pay day on par with Great Osobor (reported $2 million).
Agreed. 2 mil is way too high for lsu.
I just don't see him as a 2mil player. If lsu had 2 mil to spend they should've used it on a couple guys.

Sounds like a guy who was a very fringe NBA draft pick (likely a UDFA) who decided he probably has a more lucrative market this year in college as a "free agent". I can't imagine LSU is willing to spend something like $2M on one player. Particularly a good, but not transcendent player.
I wonder if the connection may be with new LSU asst. David Patrick? Hawkins is from the Sacramento, CA area and Patrick was the HC at Sacramento St. the last two seasons.
He's good enough that you don't turn him away if he wants to visit and shows potential interest. But I can't see LSU breaking the bank with them already having a (technically) over-full roster.

No college player is worth your HC’s salary for one year.

To save the coach's job he would be worth it.

To set that precedence is insane imho.

I don’t think it’s being set. I think this guy gets half a million.

Looks like he cancelled his visit. I got to think that football line was nonsense if he is picking KSU lol

I think its just an instance of a guy who wasn't going to get drafted trying to play the college "free agent" market. I don't blame him. This might be his best, last, opportunity to get a big payday for playing basketball. So it could very well be a situation of LSU letting him know up front they aren't going to meet his number, and K-State saying they will. If so, good for him.
While it is almost always good to bring in good players, particularly for a program/coach in need of success this season, the interests/recruitment never made a ton of sense to me. Both for LSU and him. McMahon has his full roster on campus. They are already working out together. Plus, they are already over the scholarship limit. I know that's not a big deal with NIL money to "pay tuition", but adding another player would have increased the burden.
Hawkins is a good player. But I don't think he is a transcendent player. One that comes in and makes an average team great. So I don't know if risking upsetting the apple-cart this late into the offseason was worth it. Especially considering (reports are) he would want to immediately become an entrenched starter and LSU's highest paid player.

Guy averaged 12/6/3 on 45/37/79 as a senior. Why did he get 2 million dollars?

2 million for what? He’s a nice player but K State isn’t going to all of a sudden become National Championship contenders. Insanity.

Right. It's nuts.
In no world is a player like Hawkins worth 2 mil.

Eventually teams like that who still won’t win anything will run out of money

I guess he was lying about taking in a great football atmosphere..

My stepson was in the Illinois marching band for 4 years. There's about 75 schools that have a better gameday atmosphere. And judging by TV broadcasts of KState games, yes it's very much better than Champaign.

Guess his agent was right, wanted $2M and got $2M. I don't see him worth it but KSU is desperate to field a good team and he does help with that. I could see $500k, maybe even $1M for this dude...but $2M?! He isn't a lottery pick type talent.
It is depressing....this NIL stuff is ruining college bball and will only get worse, $2M this year will be $4M in a couple years just because the agents involved. Not sure how that is economical even with a sweet 16 run. Football is big dollars for TV and bowl games especially playoffs, but basketball isn't raking in that kind of money. Its a sad day when you have to have $5M-$7M to pay for your top 7 players especially when the vast majority are almost interchangeable outside of 15 or so kids a year.
