it really just blows my mind that a highly rated 4* or 5* player who is being recruited by two powerhouses like LSU and Bama could decide to go to a perennial bottom dwelling loser like Ole Miss so he can play his heart out only to watch his subpar teammates screw up play after play, possibly never get to experience a bowl game, and suffer through losing seasons throughout his entire college career.
If the pathetic home team can have this much pull on a guy, then how can LSU lose players like Devall and Collins?!?!!

It still amazes me how blindly shortsighted people view recruiting.

If true, I don't know anything about this kid, but he has offers from UA and LSU and is down to these two schools?
Does he enjoy cruises on sinking ships? Spitting into the wind? Tugging on Superman's cape?
jesus, you're either an idiot or in a coma last year.

Sorry, but while I know that making a college choice can be a difficult time for many of these athletes and several issues can come into play. Its also important to remove all extraneous factors and limit ones self to the things that are most important. In Ward's situation if it came down to staying close to Mama, but playing for a team that consistently loses, doesn't make bowls, and has no chance for a Championship OR being a few hours further away, playing for a consistent winner, with top level talent at my side, great coaching, chances to win championships and play in top notch bowls, and with educational opportunities being equal in most respects, it doesn't seem like that difficult of a decision.
So, why exactly IS Ward picking Ole Miss?
eta: Oh, and LOGIC would dictate that when the top DB prospect lives in a state where the local school is playing for their 3rd BCS National Championship in 7 years, has BOTH All American CB's this year, Head Coach of the Year AND Defensive Coordinator of the Year, Recent First round and #1 draft picks from our Dbacks, the last two Thorpe awards, the Bednarik, and a Heisman trophy nominee all in our defensive backfield and most other things being equal or in the home team's favor, then one would deduce that logic would have him clamoring to commit to his home state team. If that is not necessarily the case, then it would seem that emotion is playing a more central role in his decision, and I'm sure many wonder what is the cause of this emotional bond that our LA players feel towards Saban and Bama, or their lack thereof with regard to LSU.

I agree with FullBloodedTiger. I just don't get it when a potentially great player goes to a semi-high school calibur team like old miss that is rarely on TV and rarely finshed in the Top 50. Its like that goofy arse 5* linebacker that could have been a starter on the pre-season #1 team in 2012 but went to ole miss to languish in obscurity until his uneventful college career comes to a dark, depressing end. Why not be a superstar, on TV every week, wear championship rings and become a national household name. WTF are some of these 4 and 5 star dudes thinking????

Well, Kiel made his decision on Dec. 23 and told the coaches. So what if he waited a few days to actually announce it.
and you know this how gino???

So when LSU was sucking arse, the coaches should have understood that no good recruits should come here? WIth your logic it's impossible for schools to ever change their current status because no good recruits could viably go that school. Thank God Dinardo and Saban didn't think like this and fought like hell to get talented people to come to LSU. New Orleans hemorrhaged top talent to out of state schools until Dinardo, Saban, and Miles sealed that shite up. Furthermore, Full Blooded Tiger gets pissed that a kid could chose their home state school and then rails on Collins and Devall for possible considering another state's school. You want cake, spoon, and shove it in your mouth with out giving a shite about logic, reason, or being questioned as long as it fits with purple and gold glasses. Sorry, there's no room for actual thought and logic; just five stars pissing there lives away by not signing with All Star school, amiright?

And to add, the NFL is full of apparent dumbass guys who illogically chose to not go to top tier programs. Serves them right.

Actually, not pissed about anything, nor am I railing about anything......just trying to understand the decisions of these recruits ( which is essentially impossible ) You're right about Dinardo, Saban, and Miles doing a great job sealing up the state, but you also readily admit that when LSU was garbage, we lost all of the good recruits. Its a process. You start to get a little success. You get a good coach. You win some games, you win some bowls. You start to snag some higher level recruits, and then as your success increases, your recruiting prowess increases. So, yes, it IS surprising when a guy like CJ Johnson, or Channing Ward picks an Ole Miss, or comparable bottom feeding school.....and it calls into question their motivations. Doesn't mean they are wrong, or that they won't succeed enough to make it to the next level. It simply means that people will wonder why they chose as they did when they had what many feel are objectively better options.
Oh, and comparing Ward deciding to stay in Miss and Devall and Collins choosing Bama is comparing apples and oranges. Bama has recently won a NC, and is playing LSU in the BCSNCG this year. Do I think LSU is better? Of course, but Bama IS on the same or near the competitive level of LSU, Ole Miss on the other hand, is, and will continue to be, a joke, likely through Ward's entire college career.

Early playing time?
A job for Mama?
A shiny new car?
Closer to home?
Promises, promises......

Maybe the kid just actually likes the school.

I know for a fact that Ward doesn't like school, and never use logic on a message board.

Closer to home
Easier path to early playing time'
Values standing out as great player rather than blending in
More attention
Not saying that I agree with him going to Ole Miss over LSU, but definitely understand the reasons that could lead him there.
