I didn't think Bama had anyone smart enough to have their own board that's why they were here so much.

It's starting to look like it was Kirby Smart who was the master recruiter on the Alabama staff.

He had been there since 2007. Now that he is gone Bama is losing commits like crazy (including a 5-star to Kirby) and finished outside the top five for the first time in what seems like forever.

Saban hires great assistants it wasn't just Smart it was all the stud recruiters throughout the years. Saban is not doing the leg work recruiting and building relationships. The best recruiters are guys like Smart Sumlin Miles Cristobal Orgeron Kiffin Muschamp who made their name as ace recruiting assistants.

A HC like Bobby Bowden or Mack Brown who doesn't have an ace recruiting assistant background and still is considered the best recruiter on the staff is extremely rare.

Burns has a lot of connections in Louisiana especially New Orleans. Look at how many players Alabama is looking at and offering from Warren Easton high school this year alone. Burton is doing work.

Alabama signed one of the highest rated classes ever in 2017. Smart was entering his second year at Georgia then.

Alabama slipped in the 2018 class for far more reasons than Smart. A host of assistants left over a 2-3 year period that were primary recruiters for the prospects of the 2018 class.

Just look at the 2015-2016 coaching staffs. There are 5 former assistants that are now head coaches. Hard to overcome. We will see if the new hires match their predecessors. They are young and energetic. Time will tell.

I'm definitely no expert on the matter.

I just have noticed that all the years Kirby was at bama they have had great classes. #1 most years.

Now Kirby's 3rd class at Georgia was totally ridiculous - seven 5-stars. His next class could possibly be even better. He already has three 5-stars for 2019.

Smart was a tremendous recruiter for Alabama. There’s no denying that. We miss his presence in Georgia. But Saban has been there and done it. Has a new, young staff now. Replacing all the losses from 2015 to 2017. Let’s see if they work. Saban ain’t getting younger. Let’s see if he’s still got it. 2019 class will let us know.

I will say his staff moves this offseason were very impressive.

he went young while LSU went geriatric.
