How is it a cheap shot. If you don't like the way you are being treated you should do something about it instead of just complainning to people who really don't give frick. Why is she not being retained on the board. I could see if her performance was not up to standards, but she replaced someone who was corrupt and by all accounts has done adequately

look, imploring 17 and 18 year olds to renege on their commitments and loi's is asking them to drop out of school. If they renege, they may not be in a college next year, and they will definitley loose their scholarship to attend S. Carolina.
This is just stupidity, and I hope that none of the S. Carolina athletes are as stupid as these people, and jeopardize their own futures...at the very least, if they leave and try to go to another school they will loose a year of elgibility and be forced to miss at least one season of their collegiate athletic careers...

because
1) It isn't the people stirring shite that are being treated poorly
2) They aren't doing anything themselves, they are encouraging teenagers to risk the best opportunity of their lives in order to do their bidding.
3) Why do you assume that the reason that she is not being retained is because she is black? I think that is incredibly racist of YOU. If it was a white guy being laid off of Southern's board would you support all of the white senator's banding together to cut all of their funding to show them who is boss? And please make the argument that it's not the same.
This is not only blatant racism, this is blatant disregard for the well being of others.

It is always interesting to me when discussions like this bounce between "they are always playing the victim" and "there's more reverse racism". . .both statements that cannot be verified.
Perhaps the truth that lies between them is that people tend to see the world through their own lens which is informed by personal context.
It seems to me that the key question here is whether or not a governing body of a state school should reflect the population of said state. I think both sides of that argument can be strongly made without any accusations of racism, reverse or otherwise.

I think they are synonymous. Think about it.

This is very true

My question is if we are all equal, and we are trying to go to a post racial world, why is it that only black board members can represent black people? I understand the natural and logical reason, but that's the real contradiction.
However, I'm done after this post because this thread has become way too political for this board.

the race card is used FAR too much.
This. I am not racist by any means, but minorities do use the "racism card" as an out to get away with what they want.
I do however understand that racism really does exist. I also know that racism will never stop being played out.
Kinda kills all hope for a decent world when people don't know how to forgive and move on. Now it's all about revenge and "me, me, me", and taking advantage of the system. It's a sick, sick world.

Buncha future gas pumpers at that university.

Just when I thought the gas pumping was hurting the Gamecock recruiting we get this?

I'm for 50% players have to white...wouldn't that be fair?!

Hey why not? Especially when it was required for over 150 years that 100% of their players be White.
It's plain to see that based on their track record, South Carolina has mastered the practice of fairness and equality.
So yeah--you're right.

There is a board for this type of sensitive issue.
OP should have known this would denigrate into a very accusatory, one-side-or-the-other argument that no one will win.

There is no reason at all there should be an all white board when almost 30% of the population is black. I really don't see the problem with them boycotting.
Using your rational, the basketball team is overrepresented and in fairness they should be boycotting the basketball team if they believe so strongly in fairness. Fairness is a two way street. I have no problem with people standing up for themselves but be consistent.

I can't stand that South Carolina mess!!
Dude I'm the most non-racsit person you'll ever meet. I went to a school that was 50/50 mix. I had friends that were black and white back then. I've served in ministry for 12years now and basically left a church because many people there didn't want black kids to come to our youth group and I stood up for the kids. Also I've taught at an inner city school in Monroe for 3 years now 99.9% african american,I love my kids and different races and cultures!!
-Now that being said I'm am sick of NAACP or ACLU making everything about race/gender. The fact is the lady committed bank fraud and that is why she is leaving, not because of her skin color.
-BTW don't like obama cause he's a Socialist!! I wouldn't care if he's white, purple, pink, or green race has nothing to do with it.
