Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire"

You could fill an entire stanza of the Bily Joel song (where he names a bunch of headline events in succession each stanza) with elite Louisiana recruits who have bolted for Bama in the last five years alone. Think Cam Robinson, Landon Collins, Tim Williams, Dylan Moses, DaVonta Smith, Christopher Allen, Isaiah Buggs as well as lesser knowns like Shyheim Carter and Phidarian Mathes. It's sickening, and nothing's changing. No fence has been put up, and it's gonna get worse when Sopsher bolts to the Gumps - probably sooner than later. Where was he yesterday? He sure wasn't in BR.

What does this have to do with Billy Joel? You sound angry and insufferable. Nothings happened yet. The guy has seen LSU. It’s not that big of a deal. Let it play out.

Let’s be honest and take off the Purple and Gold glasses, this administration is not serious in winning championships while Bama, UGA, aTm and UF are. The LSU brand used to be strong but since F King Alexander and Alleva have taken control they’ve done nothing but destroy that brand. It’s deeper than just O. O was the final touch. It all started by giving Les a ridiculous contract extension to keep him from “Arkansas”. When that happened, every coach wanted a piece of that pie and have leveraged Alleva in every way possible to collect these insane contract extensions and salaries while not producing any results. The only coach that has proven to earn his salary is Aranda but his agent knew we needed Aranda more than O so when the season was over, once again leveraged Alleva and squeezed more money. You can’t blame Aranda or his agent because it was Alleva who put himself in that position to begin with by hiring O. Before you run to defend O, how would you view this team without O? Who would have O hired to replace Aranda considering who he has hired at all the other positions??? O has no track record and no respect from anyone in the coaching world. LOOK AT HIS STAFF!!! The only meaningful coaches he has are still hold overs from Les! Cregg still hasn’t proven himself here in recruiting or on the field at LSU.
So in regards to recruiting, what does O have to offer these kids? A NC? An SEC Champ? An SEC West Champ? A win over bama? A track record of success? This is real world with kids looking at their future. It’s not a game to them like it is to us, it truly is a business decision. Not only do they want to win titles but they want to go to the NFL. They know they can get to the NFL at LSU but they can do that at other schools as well now. So what separates LSU from the rest of the pack? It used to be SEC championships, NC and big bowls. Now it’s nothing. We lose to Troy and our bowl game against Norte Dame.
YOU BUILD A FENCE BY BUILDING A BRAND. YOU BUILD A BRAND BY HAVING A STRONG IDENTITY! What is our identity? LSU’s identity is all defense and no offense. Les created that brand and O is hammering it home.
