Yeah, he had a great career, and was an awesome player. If we had 22 Landry's, we'd win the MNC every year. I'm smart enough to know that.

Anyway, this thread wasn't about Laron. He's a South Louisianan like I am and one of the top 10 safeties in the NFL right now quite possibly. So I'm done talking negatively about him.

I was more just defending Bates bc I do think he will be a very useful player at LSU. I was just bringing up examples like McCoy/Shipley, Steltz, Kyle Williams, Hester, etc.

I think this portion of the thread has run its course bc we've all made our points.

Good question would be....

Since we have NINE defensive ends next year, will Jemauria Rasco pass up on LSU due to depth.....not competition, but depth. Will the Fordham (maybe a center...maybe) or Bates offers make sense due to the number of DEs that we already have.

Well, if Jeffcoat picks Tex, they will have much better defensive ends than us (or any other team in the country besides USC/UF). Even if not, they have Alex Okafor who was IMO maybe the best defensive prospect in the country last year, and Reggie Wilson who is a top 30 type prospect this year.

So LSU wins the depth chart argument btw the two schools IMO.

Rasco is probably scared of Houston Bates right

Our best DEs are Strong Side DEs. Rasco is a Weakside DE. He'll have to compete with Sam Montgomery and Logan. We actually haven't signed enough rush DEs.

I believe if say a recruit is Very High or Most on LSU's Athletic Facilities which happens to be an A+ and the other team is anything lower than that in Athletic Facilities. Then you downlplay that.

didnt we have this same arguement about cutrera 4 yrs ago and yet i believe les said we have 4 linebackers that can start? cutrera being one of them.

maybe we'll continue the recent tradition of turning DL to OL, like Hitt and Barksdale. We don't have great OL depth this year, and I know our OL recruitment is finally starting to improve, but I wouldn't be surprised to see someone switch sides of the line this year.

Let me repeat--Laron Landry was the greatest free safety LSU ever had. He was the prototype football player and if you could clone a Collegiate free safety, his DNA would go into the test tube.

It's hard to really argue with a guy who claimed that Vince Young was not just an athelete playing quarterback and that UT ran a complicated offense while he was there. He says this even after Mack Brown pretty much told the world what he was dealing with when he said " we just decided to let Vince be Vince" AKA- "we're done trying to teach him how to read d's and play qb." SFP is a race-baiter on this board with his "No white kids can play" mentality, and many of you keep falling into his game.

No.

Name a free safety that played at LSU who was better than Laron Landry.

The guy started all four years for us and was money. All SEC, All American, All everything.

Then he only went on to be the number one safety drafted and the number six player overall.

No exaggeration.

Tommy Casanova played free safety in the NFL. While at LSU, he mostly played corner when playing defense, but only because of need. He was clearly the best free safety that LSU has produced.

I'd have to look up Casanova's accomplishments, but with what you are saying, they would have to be pretty significant.

How many pros have left the game to be a doctor? Not many. Three time All-American and atleast a one-time Pro-Bowler.

If y'all are going to pretend to be LSU fans, you should at least learn the basics of LSU's past accomplishments and great players.

Tommy Casanova is LSU's only 3-time All-American. SI put him on the cover in 1971 with a headline proclaiming him the greatest player in college football. He did it all, returning punts and kicks, playing DB, and also playing some RB.

In the NFL, he went to four straight Pro Bowls from 1974-1977, while he was attending medical school in Cincinatti. His desire to become a doctor caused him to leave football at the height of his game.

He became an opthamologist in Crowley and later a state senator.

This is why his jersey is being retired by LSU.

Why in the world would you laugh at my statement that he is the greatest free safety to come out of LSU?

Exactly....talk about profiling. It's racism. I demand quotas for white players on the team.

It gets very old when we have to hear the same old tired shite from posters. Any white kid that gets an offer is immediately picked apart and is usually described with a bunch of stupid qualifiers. Last time I checked the white kids have mostly been recruited for DL and OL along with quarterback and an occasional linebacker or safety.

Steven Ridley is another example of a hard nosed, over achieving football recruit. Miles likes these kind of kids.

This is a joke right?

Ridley, although he played at a small school was the bets player in Mississippi.

He ran for over 3,000 yards senior season.

He was an absolute blue chip stud.

Take a look at that Oregon State game again and it wasn't close who LSU's best player was.

Wait, it wasn't Jamarcus Rusell? Am I missing something?
