“For grandpa.” Anybody know the connection?

I'm not 100% sure this is the connection, but Eason graduated from Garfield HS. Former Garfield player, Joyce Walker attended LSU & played for Sue Gunter. Walker played in Europe and for the Globetrotters. She ended up back in Seattle coaching the women's basketball team at Garfield; so, that could be part of the connection.

you get the impression they're going to be a very backcourt-oriented team next year and the post is going to be a big rotation of guys without a particular bellcow in the group. Which is OK; there have been teams who did well with that kind of setup.

What's different than last year? Watford and Days thought they were guards most of the time.

4 Star # 1 player out of Washington last year. Only a sophomore, should be here for a couple years.

I assumed he was going to be a Sophomore, but then I saw this on a 247 article...

"Cincinnati forward Tari Eason has committed to LSU, he announced on Twitter on Tuesday. The 6-8, 210-pound big man will be a freshman again in 2021-22 after starting eight games during the 2020-21 season."

The biggest number that sticks out to me is 6 rebounds in only 18 minutes on the court.

Opposing teams got way too many offensive rebounds on us last year.

thanks for the useless information. He's played a year in D1. We can use that to rate his basketball skill instead of a scouting services unicorn fairy dust ratings.

This could be Wade's most "interchangable" roster since he's been here. There are a lot of guys who seem to have similar traits: 6'5 - 6'8" guys with good athleticism and length who aren't (at this point) what one would call tremendously skilled offensive players/shooters. However, they don't appear to have any "shooters" on the team, nor a traditional post presence (though obviously that can change).

Looking at the roster now you see at team that could look somewhat similar to Houston last year. No overwhelming size, but a lot of long athletes who could all defend and rebound. And you could rotate them in and out without missing a beat. The one GLARING difference is Houston had a knockdown 3 point shooter in Grimes which, right now, LSU doesn't seem to have.

I say it every year (and hope springs eternal) but there seems to be ZERO reason why this roster can't be very good defensively. They ought to be able to switch just about everything and gone are the guys everyone labeled as "offense-only" ability. Then again, until I actually see a Wade LSU team consistently play good defense I can't assume it will happen.

Tari Eason Transfer Official To LSU Basketball

quote:

Eason, a 6-8, forward from Seattle, Washington, played in 23 games this past season for the Bearcats, averaging 7.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. He started eight games during the course of the season.

"We welcome Tari Eason to the LSU Basketball program," said Coach Wade. "He is a versatile live body that can play both inside and out. Tari has tremendous length and athleticism which allows him to be a big defensive presence blocking shots. He is an elite rebounder on both ends which will lead to many second chance points as well as transition offensive opportunities."

Watched him play vs SMU. Looks like the best player on the team. He is the guy we needed this past season.
