Are we realistically going to have to “process” a lot of the players on our current roster

Saban is known for doing this a lot. He doesn’t renew a kid’s scholarship if he doesn’t think he’s up to par with the players you need to compete for championships. He had to do that a lot with Alabama in 2007 with that lousy roster that they had, and he had them going undefeated during the regular season in 2008, which was just the 2nd year of his career at Bama.

A lot of our current players on defense are obviously not up to par. Is Kelly going to be forced to “process” some of these kids in order to make room on the roster for better players? I think he might have to in order to get us to a championship level much faster.

Scholarships are a yearly thing, and even moreso in this era of transfer portal. I think you're seeing some of that with guys like Fitzgerald West hopping in the portal. Not a ton, but have to make some moves.

We’ve had 9 scholarship players enter the portal already

Just looking at the roster specially at guys who’ve been here 2 plus years and haven’t gotten much run

Ibeita’s last chance to earn some PT this year in some capacity. Still think he can become a guy in our WR room

Matthew Langlois: haven’t seen him get much play. Maybe a core special team guy?

Peyton Todd needs to prove himself this year. Make or break

Kimo Makane’ole hasn’t gotten consistent playing time here.

Not saying these guys are going anywhere. Just a fan’s observation.

We are also in the era where players don’t want to sit 1 or 2 years anymore.

I'm not surprised... a lot of them were strange takes coming out of HS. But this board thinks every low-end recruit will turn out to be the next Jefferson or Mathieu. I see a lot of those type guys in this 2024 class.

There's just not a pathway to get on the field. They will likely get buried on the depth chart when they get here and then get passed up by the next favorable/higher rated recruit or Portal transfer during the next cycle.

I'm sure there is some "processing" going on, as always, but od be wary forcing folks off the roster with the portal as haphazard as it is. Have to have practice players and, as we've seen, there's no guarantee the kid you're bringing in is better than the kid leaving. Our numbers are close enough where natural attrition will suffice for the most part.

Process them with who bro?

Portal is basically done. Not a lot of dudes remaining of any significance.

HS recruiting basically done. Not a lot of dudes remaining of any significance.

We have 3 scholarship kickers next year and that unit is not even remotely a strength for us. Best kid (most true talent) is probably Corbello, and he’s not even one of the 3.

Can’t really process a kicker, we offered them a 4 year free ride…they aren’t going anywhere.
