It seems every recruit LSU is trying to get down here is making definite plans to visit Bama and/or Auburn this spring and "hope" to make it down to LSU some time this summer.

I noticed that too. I wouldn't worry about Auburn too much though, they're simply telling recruits: "Our football team fricking sucks right now, I guarantee you a starting job next you over these clowns"

Once they see how bad this new Auburn head coach is though, they'll change their minds quick. Auburn better hope their assistants can carry them, cuz that moron won't.

I wouldn't go that far, but they do have staffs made up of more recruiters than we do. I want to be able to recruit effectively, no doubt. And some recent changes has hindered us in that department. But winning on the field, which I feel better about with our changes, is going to help us in the long-run where a team like Auburn sucking again isn't going to help them with the exception of a player or two that can play right away.

Auburn's staff is built to recruit, much like Tennessee's. It will be interesting to see if these guys can actually coach well enough to win football games...

Saban's publicity machine keeps churning and the recruits are drawn there. What can we say? The guy is one hell of a program CEO.

well, he loves lil nicky so.... Which recruits are you talking about Max? Patton? Maclin? Seastrunk? I don't think LSU fans have anything to worry about in regards to recruiting. Hopefully, Auburn falls back in their own shite this season and they only get one or two of the top guys that just want early playing time.

It will be interesting to see how things work out with Auburn's staff.

They were built to recruit, but Malzahn (sp?) is a good offensive coach and while there's still huge questions about Chiznitt's head coaching abilities he has been proven as a defensive coordinator. And while I doubt he'd have done much at Iowa St, if Malzahn can help their O and Cheeztick can focus and improve the D, they may be fine.

The problem with these staffs where the head coach is just a figure head without real control over his staff is that a guy like Gus could leave and even if they do well will probably leave someday and leave them in a bad situation. In summary, I wouldn't be all that surprised if in the next few years (certainly not this season) they had some relative success, but I doubt it lasts.

Max is just trying to stir the pot with the rantards...
It will be interesting to see what happens with Auburn and Tennessee. The AU fans always bitched about TT's recruiting classes (even though the guy won every year) and UT has to recruit well with poor in state talent. So, both school's hire unproven head coaches, who assemble staffs to recruit. But one has to wonder whether they are over doing it and putting too much emphasis on recruiting and not enough on coaching...

When the HC has little or no experience, it is important to have quality, veteran college assistants. Not sure AU and UT have either...

patton was one, dyer seastrunk and lattimore all liking auburn more was a little bit of it. Mainly it just seems any article i read about an out of state guy (not from Alabama either) the guys are saying "i'm definitely going to Bama" on such and such date or already visited then they say how they hope to make it down to Louisiana "some time in the summer" if they get some open time in their schedule.

and this is not to stir up rantards, this is a legit topic.

Winning takes care of everything....and LSU will do alot of that in 2009.

We need AU to challenge Alabama for some player's........so i hope they do.

In two-three year's.......it won't matter what Satan is telling them.....he will be a goner.

Well Maximus, I think it depends on your definition of "tooling". You are right that many recruits have been mentioning and visiting Auburn or Bama lately. What does all that really mean. Obviously it cant hurt their chances, but Im not ready to say LSU isnt recruiting well. LSU has a handful of quality men already on board. But I get what you mean. Few are mentioning LSU with as much fervor. It could be that they intend to visit LSU camps this summer, so why not see another school during the spring.

As for Lattimore, Im not sure I believe anything that the kid says. He seems like a good kid, but blows smoke about every school. Not sure about his 180 this week on his visit. I guess if youve been waiting your whole life to visit LSU why not wait a few more weeks or months.

As a rule of thumb, I only take recruits seriously when they sign the dotted line. I dont trust a commits pledge as my standard and I trust even less a prospects comments. They are kids who waffle their decisions too often and are too easily impressed.

Agreed. Where was our recruiting class ranked last year? It's hard not to have a dropoff in certain years. Not to mention, that I am sure the negative recruiters are throwing last year's season by LSU in their faces. Seems to me that some people are still holding on to LSU's 'stable of RB's', when in reality, LSU is one of the few top tier teams that can actually offer some of these guys serious early playing time. Also, I still don't get how we aren't pulling in TOP LB talent with our depth chart.

AU can sell the early playing time bit as well as the 'be a part of turning things around'. Same thing Kiffin is selling at UT.

The last 3 years, we have had recruiting classes finish #3, #11, and #1 or 2, depending on who you ask. That #11 class was much better than the ranking and is loaded with great players.

Top players look at our depth chart and know they'll be riding the bench for 2-3 years if they come here. Not so at Auburn. Saban lies to everyone and they all believe it, but getting on the field will be an issue at Bama as well. Auburn is going to grab players because just about any 4 star could conceivably start there as a Fr. or Soph.

Also, we have to remember that we went 8-5 last year. Some buzz came off the program, guys. That is why we lost out on a bunch of big names late this past year, in my opinion. I'm not trying to be negative, but we have to get that swagger back and that has to happen on the field. If LSU starts 4-0 and beats Georgia and then either beats or gives Florida a good game, you will see players that have a "wait and see" attitude with us warm up considerably.

Miles had to let go his entire defensive staff because of the mess of last year. Lee was a disaster. All of that affects recruiting. But, I'm not worried. We'll get it back when we win 10-11 games this year and finish in the top 10.

I seem to remember people saying that about Miles. Even after he won a NC.

This is what Auburn has to offer:

New Coach, New Direction for the program

Immediate Playing Time

RB Coach is from Ark. and coached McFadden and Felix Jones

RB Coach produces NFL 1st round draft pick rbs

Auburn has a strong history of RB.

I can see why the top 3 RBs in the country are so interested in them. Obviously LSU similar things to offer. Its still early, Ill be patient.

The fact is most of these kids give most of the weight to how soon they can see the field. UTenn and Auburn can offer early playing time and will get recruits. Harvey two face at Bama will continue to do what he does....tell everybody what they want to hear. The noose is slightly tightening at Bama. If he does not win it all in either of the next 2 seasons he may need to call Sexton to set up his next gig.
