With Auburn, it may be a situation where they just were late noticing him and don't think they can pull him.

The bottom line is that neither Saban or Miles are going to take a top recruit out of the state if the home team really wants him. It sounds like there was no room on Bama's team for Gibson, so it's no big deal if another team has a need and picks him up. Everyone just says shite to get the other team riled up...

That's essentially true

I'm just happy the Barn didn't get him so that they could throw it in our face as if we'd offered. But they should feel stupid for getting scooped by LSU as they need all the help they can get.

But regarding Gibson, I think everybody knew he was an outstanding athlete. His measurables are outstanding for a DB or WR. Fact remains, his best position right now is probably QB and he's not a SEC caliber QB. He's very raw, and is definitely a very high potential guy... but also a guy you could easily see being a bust. Still his potential I think is exciting and if you have the space to bring him in, then do it. We're going after and bringing in so many DBs though, just no room

Why is Bama taking all of our scrubs...don't they have to make room for 30 other guys that they over signed?

What a dick thing to say.

And maybe they aren't scrubs, maybe they were redshirt freshmen on a team where even your supposed stars looked like scrubs due to the coaching.
In the general sense there's nothing wrong with the one and done rule. Yeah they don't have to take school seriously and yeah they're usually gonna leave, but it gives a big benefit to both the college and pro game.

It gives the pro game the year or perhaps even 2 of being able to scout these kids vs legit competition and allow them to get coached the basics on the college level rather than having to draft these kids without really knowing what you're gonna get and having to teach them basic skills and team concepts that college coaches are better equipped to do for them. And it weeds out the busts or at least keeps them in college long enough to where they can develop the knowledge or skills that they lack. I mean guys like Telfair or Kwame would've done wonders for their games if they'd gone to college instead of having basically be thrown to the wolves as the talent is there with both of them.

As for college, yeah they get students that may not care about school, but some of these teams get players that make them contenders like Kevin Love or Derrick Rose or Oden, and the entire sport benefits from the star power that these guys bring in a sport that desperately needs it. The only people getting the raw end of the deal are some guys that truly don't need it and are going to college if they dont want to and risking career injuries instead of going straight to the money.
If you watch his film, that 4.8 forty is deceiving as he is very mobile and can be elusive.

And I'd bet good money that after camps and season, he moves up to 5* status. And I don't care if its because he is with us

And some places have him as 6'2 and maybe still growing. The guy looks like a stud to me.

That image doesn't help your cause 'cuz the power of the I formation would donkey stomp a 3-3-5, but yes it's viable against the spread.

Our front 6 (in that case) could handle power rushing attack. And physical dbs
It will be interesting to see how things work out with Auburn's staff.

They were built to recruit, but Malzahn (sp?) is a good offensive coach and while there's still huge questions about Chiznitt's head coaching abilities he has been proven as a defensive coordinator. And while I doubt he'd have done much at Iowa St, if Malzahn can help their O and Cheeztick can focus and improve the D, they may be fine.

The problem with these staffs where the head coach is just a figure head without real control over his staff is that a guy like Gus could leave and even if they do well will probably leave someday and leave them in a bad situation. In summary, I wouldn't be all that surprised if in the next few years (certainly not this season) they had some relative success, but I doubt it lasts.

He has said Bama leads early, and LSU is probably the major competition. Though Tennessee does plan on putting a big focus on the Memphis area and may get in on him too.

And he definitely looks like a good one.
there's nothing to tell. Its not exactly like we're gonna be bowl banned, the worst that happens is we lose 2-4 schollies and that doesn't effect them.

The only reason that idiot Scarbinsky is trying to make it a big deal is because all of the media is pissed they weren't allowed to know about it, and instead of just saying that because they know fans don't care what they know... he's pretending like its a big deal that the incoming class didn't know. And it isn't. And quite frankly even if there was a threat of major sanctions, its a smart move to not let it get out prior to NSD.

Absolute Bama lock
Because other teams with other nice stadiums and other top coaches are doing the same thing

For some of us though, this is the only way to guide these players in the beginning.

True, but when you're a LSU/Bama/Florida/Georgia type team if you're taking a guy this early there is a really good chance that the player is quality and should help your team/fill a need. Just because these teams could weave through the process and get into the front door of the best players at any position in the country for the more part and don't need to just take guys because they ask. When you're Ole Miss or something, then star gazing should come into effect.

B.J.s obviously still considering Auburn and of course Bama is in the mix, but he has a lot of interest in Florida too and if they offer that may be where he ends up.
Kenny's a big part of our class, and Saban doesn't like to grey shirt athletes.

Fact is one of the priorities we had in this class is getting a slot receiver, and don't be surprised to see Bell get early pt. That's why we were trying so hard to get either Bumphis/Teague/Bell in this class, and with Bell's speed and height, and route running ability he'll be a good fit.
Its so hilarious how this played out. Keiwone has been the state's leading receiver since he was a sophomore, and a day after UT locks up Memphis and the state, Saban pulls the trigger.

Kid needs to gain some weight though, but he has nice size and is very athletic.
CB isn't that big a need, we had to get a quality one and I'd say that we did in Dre. We brought in Zo, Green, and BJ (who will be switched over next year) and all were very highly rated corners. Considering Kareem Jackson has 2 more years of eligibility, we added Dre and the state is going to have a great DB group...we're fine.

We may have needed another safety though, Thompson kinda screwed us with Myles, but we'll bring some in next year.
LOL at the excuses. Whether a Bama supporter owns Rivals or not (and nobody knows, we say other team's alum's own it, some say USC's alums own it), no players have been changed in star status today (if anything, the last time they did it hurt us with the huge Bonds drop) and the Rivals team rankings more so than any other go by a numerical formula and it wasn't altered today.

I and others have been saying we were gonna take the top spot since allstar weekend, and it was actually closer than expected with us not getting Massie and you getting Montgomery.

Both teams racked up today and added to their future, as did most of the SEC
Anybody saying a DE in the 3-4 can't easily translate to a DT in the 4-3 needs to get their heads checked

Players fluctuate all the time in the NFL, just like DEs and Jacks in the NFL. And even get drafted in the top 5 only to be expected to make that transition. You can get your sacks from the DL in the 3-4 see Gilberry.

Texas' class is better than bama's and the way Florida closes on recruits, they could easily jump into the top 5

Texas' class may be basically done, and we're gonna finish quite strong (though Texas' class is great anyways).

And if/when Florida jumps into the top 5 or deserves to be in that group I'll add them to the list
That's hilarious :rotflmao:
No it doesn't really matter all that much, I think it matters more to just consistently be around the upper tier in the rankings though.

But I think there are going to be 4 amazing classes this year with LSU, Bama, USCw, tOSU. The rest shall be proven on the field. But, I'd be happy to just be able to say that every year or at least the high majority of the years, even without seeing the number 1 by my team's class

So while it may not matter all that much, it is surely a fun ride while the "competition" is going on. It certainly helps keep me entertained as a sideshow during the football season and as the mainevent after the season
