My grandson is going to the three day camp on the 20th. He will be a 14 year old NG this year. 6’2” 260lbs and wingspan of 78 inches. Has a long way to go in weight room but does excellent on the field. Actually started the varsity spring game here in Minden as NG on last his last day of the 8th grade. Will be interesting to see how he does from year to year.

with due respect to the kids and their family posting on this thread (which I hope they earn the offer), the camp seems very low key compared to SEC standards. I dont see any 5 star OL or DL attending the camp.

It’s an open camp, so anyone can go. It was a chance to see lots of good players, get his name out there (he’s a sophomore), and learn a bit.

Here is is with Coach O.

Alabama holds same exact camp. Same quality of players. It’s not about bringing in 4 and 5 stars. It’s about introducing the kids to your brand. And for the kid it’s about a chance to get a little coaching.

There is always that chance for the school that they stumble across a diamond in the rough. And for the kids there is the chance they might get noticed and end up on a board. Plus words of encouragement goes along way in a weight room.

Plus it’s a wonderful experience for a young man. So it’s win win all around. Plus the schools athletic department makes some small change.

Now if someone is going there exclusively hoping for an offer they are just throwing money to the wind. That’s not what these camps are all about.

I hope my grandson gets some good coaching that will help him on the field. I hope he finds words of encouragement that will push him in the weight room. And I hope he has a memory that will last a lifetime.

Btw, there are no stars given to sophomores and freshman. Plus D1 schools cannot contact them. So the only way D1 schools have a way of spotting someone at that age is by camps. Getting noticed is all you can hope for. And if so they will begin to follow you. Of course there are those like Devin White that walk into camp unrated as a freshman only to leave with an offer.

My son was really glad he went. Said most of the OL guys left after the lunch break, and he stayed with a handful of other guys. Wound up getting a ton of reps, talked to a bunch of coaches, talked to O (made sure to say he was from Mandeville), and learned a lot. He said he hasn’t been this sore in a while.

Good stuff. Looks like there was some good DL competition there and a couple of OTs from Texas that are highly rated by 247.

He is going to the Alabama 3 day camp with a day off in between that and the LSU 3 day camp. He ought to be really sore by the end of the week.

No I did not pay for him to go to the Bama camp. A family friend that is a Bama nut case did. At this stage I am all for letting him enjoy going every place that he can.

Lol no need to explain. You are being a good parent with your kids development in mind. Doesn’t matter where they get what they need.

No but his best friend did. He will be the starting left tackle for varsity as a freshman this year. Now that kid is a Bama nut. He is going to the 3 day Bama camp as well but not LSU one.

I’m 6 feet. His grandfather was 6-3 and played line for Tulane way back in the day. His great uncle was a bit taller than that.

My friend is on staff at Minden and he told me about him. Said he was one of the best lineman he had ever seen at that age and my friend does not hand out many compliments. Hope he and your grandson make MHS a contender soon.

I told him it’s his decision, and we’ll support him no matter what. I do know it would be hard for him to say no to an offer from LSU.

Landon has some growing to do to make a D1 team. He is 5”11” and his family is short. Kid is strong as an ox. They have him playing OT and that is where he is needed. But on the next level he will be an interior lineman. He doesn’t have a long wingspan and needs lots of development at foot work. Unless he grows taller he will have problems making an SEC squad. I hope he grows another 2 or 3 inches. He is a good kid. Is at my house 2 to 3 nights a week.

My grandson Makhi is 6’2” and still 14. Everyone in my family grew in high school. I grew 4 inches. So I think he will end up at least 6’4”. And he has a huge wingspan. His wingspan is 5” longer than his height.

He and Landon had an excellent year as 8th graders. Both have a ton of work and a little luck to make that next level. But I think Minden will do well in the next few years. I really like the coaching staff.
