Just got a phone call from a relative of Andre's and someone very involved in Jackson basketball. He said Andre is playing on the Celtics' D team (SIAP)and that he has talked to several other coaches in the last few days who are very close to the situation, and all of them are saying that Malik is going to go to LSU to play with Ben Simmons.

Andre Stringer on Celtics D Team

Isn't he pretty up there for all-time LSU points?

Also, not doubting the story, but how would Stringer find out stuff about Newman?

They probably know all the same people from the Jackson basketball scene.
I'm still skeptical though because since Adidas got Howland hired at State they've been pushing Newman that way since he plays on one of their AAU teams.

He also plays on a handful of nike teams. Much larger handful than Addias

Perfect timing. The other two Newman threads got hijacked. If he commits before this one gets to 7 pages, we might be able to avoid having to start a new one.

Only real connection you can draw is physical location and they both played for the Jackson Tigers team at one point.

You do know that State is still way down on the Adidas pecking order? If decision was shoe-company based (not unusual in today's CBB) why would Adidas not push the the kid to Kansas who is also an Adidas school with a MUCH bigger national appeal than MSU.

He doesn't play for any Adidas teams. He plays for the Jackson Tigers who are sponsored by Nike. His high school is sponsored by UnderArmour. The only thing he's ever done with Adidas was the Adidas Nations two years ago. He's been an EYBL kid his wholr career.

I don't know, why didn't Nike push Blakeney to Kentucky, who is a bigger national name than LSU?
Maybe they want to build another brand. Maybe they want to do Howland a favor. Maybe since no one in his circle can agree on where they want him to go they'll compromise on a Mississippi school.
