Macaoidh - outstanding stuff. Read this and hope you are right (though we may need another OL -like a center - over WR (so maybe it is Lacy with either Zavion or the highland park kid). Thoughts?

When someone counters your claims you don’t come back with the exact statement you made the first time and throw in “we have the most candy arse fan base” as your rebuttal. Just gives credence to why people can’t stand you.

All along I said we'd want to sign seven or even eight offensive linemen in the 32.

I'm building this list based on known available talent as of right now. And of course the portal is a 5 or 6 month process with new guys coming available all the time. So it's entirely likely that a center would come available for us to grab who qualifies as a plug and play guy. I just don't see one who does anything for me to date, much less one we know LSU has offered yet.

That could certainly change in a few days or a few weeks, and it's entirely possible that you could use that last spot I've got laid in for Moten on a center from the portal. If Evans comes back and we get Wingo we really don't need another defensive tackle, so that would be where you'd get your center.

But when I was building this list I figured the line might set up from left to right like this:

LT - Myles Frazier
LG - Emory Jones (just too good in that all-star game)
C - Garrett Dellinger
RG - O'Cyrus Torrance
RT - Will Campbell

And if it goes that way and Dellinger can handle the center position you can get away without signing a center in the portal.

The reason I put both Thomas and Rutledge in the class is that wide receivers with good top-end speed who can change direction well can always be moved to DB, and honestly we could use at least one more DB above and beyond this list. So my thinking is that one of the two between Thomas and Rutledge would ultimately make his way to corner or safety, and that's where your value would come in.

But let's say there's some all-conference cornerback from a Power 5 school who jumps into the portal later this week. I think you grab that guy and one of these WR's is now out.

This - excellent information. Hopefully the new team can pull it in strong, get us focused and on the way to a winning season next fall.

Hey macaoidh, how confident are you in your statement that Jamar Cain has a pre-existing relationship with R Mason Thomas??

Not trying to call you out here, just didn’t know that they already knew each other. Hope you’re right because that would be big. We need linebackers badly, and R Mason Thomas would be a great one for the scheme Matt House likes to run….

Hopefully save a few portal spots into the summer when more guys will pop up.

I agree about trying to save a couple of spots for guys who enter the portal after spring ball, but I believe the deadline to use the extra 7 spots is May 1, so I think there's going to be about a 1 month window after spring practice where there's a lot of transfer activity.

Someone can check me on that May 1 date. It might be the end of May.

Thank you for providing this write up and taking the time to do so. I apologize for crapping on it - I stand by some of my points but could've worded/been more specific

I've seen some stuff on pay sites suggesting this as well

I like both incoming OL freshmen but would call it less than ideal having freshmen starting on the OL at least to begin the season. Can Wire might kick to RT with Frazier locking down the LT position. Also, if a couple of the guys can actually get into shape I could see a possible rotation at the guard positions until a couple step-up and take it.

Shouldn’t waste time on Eric Reed from AU. Personally played him and our no star running back was making a btch out of him the whole game. Overrated

Nice list but LSU really needs a true center for the OL. Not sure if one’s available yet but I think it’s the top priority.

You could put Mekhi Garner from ULL in that slot if you want. I went with Reed instead, but all I'm really saying is we'll take Brooks plus one other corner from the portal.

Great job on your list.

Mekhi Wingo has narrowered his choices to: Arkansas, LSU, Oklahoma and USC
