Ok I know there is an 85 man limit roster. I thought there is a 30 scholarship limit in recruiting. If a school loses their Sr's and a lot of their Jr's to the the NFL Draft.

My question is this if a school loses more than 30 players, can a school recruit more than the 30 scholarship rule?

No, no expansion of the 25 unless you didn't sign 25 the year before. It just opens up Walk Ons to get scholarships for a year and fewer attrition candidates for the next class.

You will always have attrition because you are signing 25 every year which is 100 players on your roster not counting walk ons

More than 100 with redshirts.

correct me if I am wrong.

But let’s say we signed 25 recruits but are still under the limit. At say 83.

We can’t take transfers since we hit 25. So the only option is to give 2 scholarships to previously non-scholl players.

Right?

Only if they have been on campus for two years, otherwise they count against the 25

I i believe if they were not a recruited athlete, they can be put on scholarship

It’s crazy to think that a hypothetical program could have their team decimated by transfers out and not be able to recoup at least 70% of the numbers.

Say that Miami just signed 25 players, yet still short with 80 scholarship players.

Diaz quits and 13 players leave and they cannot take any transfers in because they signed 25.

Are they really stuck at 67?

Yes. Can't you see how that could be manipulated?

"transfers" are not always voluntary.

25 signees over 5 years (with redshirts) is potentially 125 players. There is more than enough cushion for attrition.

The residency requirement is now 1 year. So walkon for one year and hope to get a scholarship.

I believe Mike Williams will get one this year ;-)
