"And every coach, (tight ends) coach (Steve) Ensminger, that's my recruiter, and I love that man to death. He stuck his head on a limb for me sometimes, just to make sure I was OK mentally, and most people didn't do that for me."
Good stuff.

I just dont get why people dont think White can play RB because he is a big dude.
Many RB's have gone on to play in the NFL that were big backs, Jerome Bettis, Christian Okoye, Brandon Jacobs, Natrone Means, Craig Heyward, Jamal Lewis.
The point being the list goes on and on, and we ought to be glad we got potentially the best pure power RB we have ever had.
He has made it clear he wants to play RB. I'm sure the coaches know that, and the fans should just accept it.
If he was forced to play LB instead of RB I'm certain, just about any other school in the country would be happy to let him play RB for them. We have already seen how that plays out when a player is forced to move to FB from LB, and you cant blame a kid for bailing when that happens.

So long as Mr. White comes in here and works hard, it isn't hard to see that he will beat out Williams and Brossette for playing time.
Both of those kids are good guys, but size, speed, and talentwise, White is better than all of our backs other than Fournette, and Guice right now.
I'm really looking forward to watching White mow over some of those Bama candy arse linebackers

I do not agree with everything Miles does, but I don't think he and Frank Wildon would deceive the young man. He will be a running back if that's what he told them he wants.

While it is true Ridley stayed at RB and is still there in the NFL, others like Marcus Spears got the first shot at where they were promised, TE then figured out where he could best help the team and received more playing time at DL.
So who can say for sure where White will wind up.

I fully believe that DW was going to leave the state until after his arrest in November. He had his disciplinary meeting the Monday after they came back from Thanksgiving break and that night Les was at his house. I think that is what locked him down. I think Bama and other schools backed of a little to see what was going on and LSU was there for him. I sensed a shift at that point and felt like he was gonna stay home.
He needs to play linebacker. With LSU going to a 3-4 he will get a shite ton of playing time immediately because he will fit Aranda's system well. Because he is a spring enrollee, they need to get him to 240 or so ASAP.
His future is at linebacker. Hopefully he figures that out pretty quick.

His future is at whatever position he wants to play, this isnt pee wee football anymore man, blue chip recruits get to decide what position they want to play.
He has stated he wants to play RB in college, so if they dont let him pay RB, I'm sure he will find another school that would be happy to have him as one.
If Devin White decides that he would prefer to play LB on his own, then that is an entirely different story, and they should let him play linebacker. I have not seen any articles attributed to him stating he wants to be anything else other than a RB at the college level, and beyond though. He is a good enough athlete to play at the next level in either position, but the choice is still his to make.
His future is at whatever position HE decides he wants to play, which is the way it ought to be in the first place.

Simmer down, little camper.
My point was that with us going to a 3-4 and with Aranda's style, he'd be a beast at LB with his attributes and would play immediately rather than getting into our RB log jam behind LF and Guise.
Plus, the way the NFL is with RB's these days, his long term career prospects would be better as a LB anyway.

Interesting, now there is an article where D. White is saying he would be open to playing linebacker if the team felt like that was where he was needed most.

The coaching staff still prefers him to be a RB at this point, but the end solution remains to be seen.
Personally, I think it would be a shame to waste the talent of what could very well be the next Jerome Bettis type back, by moving him to LB.
That kid has an amazing combination of power, speed, and agility at nearly 260lbs. When you think of hall of fame players in the NFL, the first players one generally thinks of are players on offense.

I feel like a guy like Aranda will be able to talk DW into playing LB pretty easily. Immediate playing time and depending on how things go in the Spring maybe even a starter in a 3-4.
I admit I have always saw him as a defensive player. My hope was that he was gonna grow to 6'4" or 6'5" and be an incredible DE.

I really would like to see him play RB, we really haven't had a running back as big and as fast as him before. Fournette is a big dude, but if you have ever seen White standing next to him, the difference in size becomes very obvious.
White would be able to dish out some serious punishment, and I would like to see him KO many Alabama defenders during his time here. At the end of the day, he and the coaching staff are going to work that out though. 6'1" is not ideal height for an NFL linebacker though.

You can add Marion Butts to the list of big power backs from years gone pas as well. That guy could and did run some poor fools over when he played for the Chargers too.
I've never been a fan of the tiny scatbacks, which seems to be a pretty common theme these days. I've always thought, it was a lot more fun to see a RB run some dude over straight up, then do some finesse move around somebody.
Always been a fan of the power running game with giant power RB's, I hope those days return again....

Yeah and makes me think of Stan Humphries as well

Yes, SFP. I've seen him play several times. Saw him on a bad ankle pick up a punt dropped by a teammate on one side of the field and run straight to the other sideline and turn the corner for a TD return with plenty of room to spare. The kid is amazing. I just think his future is at LB.

i mean if he REALLY wants to be a RB then fine
but he's got a much higher chance of wasting his pro potential by staying at RB than going all in at LB
