Jacob Phillips (LSU): Phillips isn’t the highest-ranked player in LSU’s class, but he might be the most important. The nation’s No. 1 inside linebacker could very well start right away at a position of need for the Tigers. Phillips is a prime candidate to take Duke Riley’s spot and be a run-stopping anchor in Dave Aranda’s scheme.

If Phillips had been an EE, I would bet money he would start next to White at ILB to start the season. My guess is itll be about midseason before he makes the starting lineup.

Do you think Divinity will slide over to ILB or will Alexander still be the other starter?

Can Divinity play outside linebacker? Is he fast enough?

Likely Alexander starts to fill in for Duke. Divinity probably goes opposite of Key when they are in the base defense. Last season I feel like we played mostly 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 (depending on what you position Key) toward the end of the year.

I think its safe to say that, other than Key and White, the LB positions will be fairly fluid. Best 2 will see the field.
Thompson won his appeal right? So start the year with:
Jack - Key
Mike - White
Sam - Divinity
Rover - Thompson

Then by mid year:
Jack - Key
Mike - White
Sam - Phillips
Rover - Divinity/Thompson - based on situation

Alexander in Rotation.

Divinity is a beast and he needs to see the field. I think Thompson is that guy in the F spot for his last year unless he gets hurt, and we can't waste Divinity on the bench behind him at the F spot. I think Divinity should start inside next to White. I just don't see why we would have Alexander on the field if Divinity could conceivably play the inside spot. He's too small

I think Phillips is gonna be a stud, but if Divinity can make the switch to inside I don't think Phillips passes him up right away. People seems to be forgetting about Divinity but dude was rated the number one OLB in the nation in his own right, and is 6'3 235.

Bottom line is Alexander shouldn't be on the field at his size. Him having to come in for beckwith is he only reason Florida moved the ball AT ALL against us (other than Jackson getting toasted on that one play)

I think the end goal is definitely
Key
White
Phillips
Divinity

With Thompson subbing in on passing situations. 6th year guy with the ability to play OLB or S is a pretty good commodity.
I agree that Alexander is odd man out in this group.
The depth behind Key is insane. We might even run a 5-2-4 at times with Key and Sci/Thornton/Chaisson both coming off the ends. White and Divinity as the two LBs. ETA: obviously the 5-2-4 is highly situational

Technically linebacker core could be correct because it is the middle of the defense

Yes, the LB core and periphery. Divinity is so valuable because he can be in both the core and the periphery. Thompson is an even rarer player in that he inhabits both the periphery of LBs and the core of DBs.

Bama won't know what hit them.

Same thing was said about Devin White since he was an EE, but D. Alexander played twice as much, even with Beckwith going out.

Donnie Alexander could have a Debo/Duke type of senior year if he gains 10-15 pounds.

Phillips will get a lot of playing time and has potential to start early, but this is our 3rd coordinator who has thought very highly of Alexander. He'll go from top 7 tackler on one of the best defenses in the country, to top 3.
