2027 baseball commit, Devyn Downs, pitched today at the MLB Breakthrough Series. He topped out at 93 and sat at 90 most of the game. 7 innings, 2 hits, 1 walk and 6ks.

It’s starting to feel like he’s going to be another one of those difficult to get him on campus players. He’s been invited to some of the different MLB/USA Baseball events the last 2 years, so he’s obviously on their radar.

Based on the PG site he hit 90 mph on 1 pitch and for the game averaged 87 on his FB.

Went 7 innings, 80 pitches with 70% strike rate. 6K's, 1 BB..

PG write-up post game

My son has played against them a bit. Downs continues to impress. Downs is one of the only kids that was dominant at 10 years old and has continued that level of dominance throughout. If he doesnt slow down a bit he will look like Schmidt in a couple years.

There are some really good 2027 players but no one has kept this level of supremacy over the rest like Devyn.

Ok. I appreciate it . I was going off of his dad, my buddy that works with 3 pitchers currently committed to LSU and the Perfect Game Scout twitter page. They all made it sound like he hit 93 and stayed around 90/91.

Last time I saw him pitch he was sitting high 80s and it was pretty effortless. He is more than capable of 90ish for sure. This was a few weeks ago. When he is commanding that outside corner he has a little late armside run that makes it really really hard on a hitter. Your best chance is to commit to the outside part of the plate and get on him early. You get down he can whip it past you in, and his breaking stuff is getting better and better. Barrels are just really hard to find on him. As a youngster he just struck everyone out, now he produces soft contact all day but can still punch you out plenty

Surprised west Monroe hasn’t offered him a lucrative nil deal .

Didn’t he transfer from Sterlington to Bastrop? There is talk that he’s not going to play for Bastrop High. I don’t know if they play enough games to qualify for the playoffs.

I know his brother who played QB at Sterlington last year is at Bastrop and going to 7v7 camps with them. According to my son and listening to their dad, they’re both supposed end up at Bastrop, but who knows.

I’m somewhat surprised considering the situation they have on the Sterlington baseball team. Their HC Mark Sims and pitching coach Ben Sheets both pitched in the pros, so I would think that alone would be worth staying.
