With a good wingspan, athleticism, and instincts you can easily be a 5 at 6’9.

As people have said already Mickey was perfectly serviceable 5. Tyrus Thomas was 6’10.

Yes lol do you watch college basketball? 6’9 with a good wingspan is plenty big for a college 5. Heck 6’8 or 6’7 can work with the right wingspan and body build. This is not the NBA

I literally just said my knowledge of bball isn't that great... yes I watch. but to my naked eye I cant tell the height of every single person on the court. wingspan or not a 6'9 guy covering a 7' guy is a mismatch.

ncaa you run into the nba guys.

you want to compete in conf or be loaded for bear.

yes the occaisional 6 7 or 6 8 guy can rebound/score with anyone but a bigger guy or two really makes a difference in ncaas.

for every wes unseld there are 20 7 footers who play in nba because BIG.
look at all the eastern euro dna on display.

valanciunas had 26 and 20 vs lakers in memphis win.

portland misses their euro big.

denver has one.

mavs porzingas 7 3.

Strength is more important than height in Colbert's case, 6'9 vs 6'11 really isn't that much of a deal if hes strong enough to hold his own

How many coordinated 7 footers do you think play at the college level?

Your height from the top of your head to the ground is irrelevant.

Your height from your finger tips to the ground is what is important.

Also leaping ability, strength, etc.

There are very few capable big men above 6-10 in college.

Agreed that skilled, athletic bigs that are a true 6-10 or taller are very rare.

For every 20 Darcy Malone’s you have 1 James wiseman.

One guy just named a bunch of NBA 7 footers who didn’t even play college basketball to make his point

Elbert Robinson, etc.

Height is just one factor among many.

Actually a guy like Jordan Mickey is almost the perfect college center. Get two years out of him (probably should’ve gotten 3). Compared to a guy like Wiseman or Mitchell Robinson who you may get nothing out of.

Yep he destroyed his own argument by trying to make his point. I bet if you took every final four team from the last 15 years way more started a 6-9 guy at the 5 than 7 footer

Ok well I apologize I shouldn’t have said that about you not knowing basketball when you admitted you don’t watch that much. But the point is there are very few true big men in college basketball. Our 6’6 post have usually been better than our opponents bigger post this year. There are some good true bigs but they are few and far between in college basketball. 6’9 is average to above average for a college big

I think Tyrus Thomas is definitely in that conversation. I thought he was more of a presence than Jordan Mickey.

And that finger roll truly is a thing of beauty.
