...or at least as far back as the 247 website's records go!

Currently, our highest rated class was 2009 at 0.9151, but...

the 2020 class' average rating is currently 0.9238 with 23 commits so far.

247 Website

NOTE: The website only goes back to 1999.

It's really impressive considering Louisiana has no 5 stars this cycle. this is the best OOS recruiting we have done since I can remember

Average rating was probably distorted by special teams players in some of those years.

I'm not one to put great emphasis on how recruiting services rate players or classes. It is interesting though, which is why I do pay attention to them. But at the end of the day the only true measure of a recruiting class is how many actually play in the NFL. You really can't even honestly rate a class based on how well the team does during their tenure, because there are other classes involved. It'd be interesting to see which LSU recruiting class produced the most NFL players. I'd have to say that class would be the best recruiting class in LSU history. Seeing LSU bringing in a class rated this high doesn't mean LSU will compete for NC's, but it does show that O and staff can successfully recruit against the elite programs in college football. This is encouraging. That being said, the most important aspect of recruiting players isn't to sign the most highly rated players in the class, it's to accurately evaluate the players. You can sign Ten 5 star players in a class and not one of them turns out to be an elite player. Accurate evaluation, that is the key to recruiting. For the most part I think O and staff have done a very good job of evaluating players.

I think you probably make some good points in your posts, but could you PLEASE insert some paragraphs in your posts? They're almost impossible to read. Please.

Having everyone make it to the NFL is great, but I care more about evaluating a class on how they contribute to the success of LSU not the NFL.

Great point, Walrus!

I was very impressed with CEO last year. Although last year's class doesn't necessarily stand out on paper (avg rating), CEO made the team better by addressing needs (i.e. PK, in the trenches, transferees, etc.). And despite what TigerEyes says, the true judge of a recruiting class is not how many recruits make it to the NFL, or even how high your rating is - it's does it make your football team better?!

High profile 5 starts from Louisiana has been our weakness of late. We're lucky they are all out of state this year

I’ll agree when all of these guys sign on the dotted line. Still a lot of flip potential out there for some of the guys at the top of the class. Downvote away but you all know it’s true.

N frickin O! That is a terrible measure of a class of 25 out of which five having NFL careers would be good. Another team might have three in the NFL, but another 15 who were all conference second or third team.

2009 was the top ranked class on 24/7.
2014 was the second ranked class on every service including 24/7

The average rating of the class of the 2012 fantastic but that number is as much a measure of overall talent across the board when the class ranked #3 has a higher average rating than the many number one classes in previous years.

N fricking o, it is NOT a terrible measure of a recruiting class. It may not be the best measure, but it sure is not a 'terrible' one. I can understand your point. I mean Tim Tebow would be considered a successful recruit, but he wasn't a successful NFL player. On the other side is Tom Brady, who wouldn't be considered a successful recruit, not to the level of Tebow, yet he is considered the greatest QB in NFL history. So I may be mistaken on my estimation, but it isn't a 'terrible' one.
