1. Trovon Reed (ATH) 6'0", 180, 4.4, Thibodaux High School. Reed is a Percy Harvin-type player who is capable of breaking a big play at anytime. Reed took part in the USA Army junior combine and stole the show. In 2008, Reed rushed for 746 yards on 91 carries for a 8.2 average and 10 touchdowns. Reed completed 28 of 52 passes for 694 yards and 10 touchdowns. As a receiver, Reed had 19 receptions for 344 yards for an 18.1-yard average and one touchdown.
2. Terrance Broadway (QB), 6'2", 205, 4.5, Capitol. In 2008, Broadway did not play in the last two games of the regular season because of an injury. In eight games, Broadway completed 92 of 142 passes for 1,260 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 240 yards on 20 carries for a 12.0 average and three touchdowns.
3. Eric Reid (DB), 6'2", 205, Dutchtown. Reid is sure tackler with great cover skills and will be a national recruit.
4. James Wright (WR/DB), 6'3", 185, Belle Chase. I spoke to two coaches who played against Wright in the state playoffs and they both told me that he will be playing on Sundays in the future.
5. DJ Welter (LB), 6'1", 215, 4.55, Notre Dame of Crowley. Welter has a nose for the ball, and veteran head coach Louie Cook says he is the best high school linebacker he has ever coached.
6. Jordan Allen (DL), 6'6", 245, 4.8, West Monroe. Jordan has all the tools to be a great college defensive lineman. I believe that Allen will play defensive end in college, but he has the body frame to add 40 more pounds and play defensive tackle.
7. Nick Jacobs (TE/DE), 6'6", 250, Many. Jacobs is a big-time major college prospect as a TE/DE. Jacobs is also among the top 10 Louisiana basketball prospects but will play college football.
8. Luke Charpentier (OT), 6'4", 290, John Curtis. Carpentier has great mobility and super quickness for his size.
9. Tharold Simon (WR/S), 6'3", 190, 4.55, Eunice. Simon is big, strong and fast and could play wide receiver or safety in college. The only drawback with Simon is academics.
10. Ronnie Vinson (S), 5'11", 185, 4.4, Newman. Vinson has all the tools to be a great safety or cover cornerback in college and will be a national recruit.
11. Houston Bates (TE/DE), 6'3’, 230, 4.7, ST Paul of Couvington. Bates will likely play defensive end in college and is very aggressive.
12. Gavin Webster (ATH), 6'0", 180, 4.45, Lutcher. Webster led Lutcher to the 3-A state title playing quarterback and would make a team that runs the spread offense a great college quarterback. He also has the speed to be a lock down cornerback.
13. Jeremy Meyers (QB), 6'2", 195, 4.7, ST Michael, Baton Rouge. Meyers will be recruited by some schools to play quarterback and some schools as a safety. Meyers is being recruited by many BCS conference schools.
14. Eric Thomas (WR), 6'1", 195, 4.5, Evangel. Thomas runs great routes and has been well coached.
15. Taylor Burch (QB), 6'3", 195, 4.6, Neville of Monroe. Burch has a rocket for a arm and has all the tools to be a great college quarterback.
15. (tie) LaCraig Brown (DE/DT), 6'6", 275, Richwood of Monroe. Big, strong and very quick for his size.
16. Churphy Steward (DT) 6'1", 272, 4.8, Breaux Bridge. Stewart is very quick and strong. His only drawbacks are his height and grades.
17. Karl Butler (DB), 6'1", 180, 4.45, Brother Martin. Butler is a great one-on-one cover cornerback and is very capable of playing in the SEC.
18. James Gillum (RB), 5'11", 186, 4.4, Pearl River. According to Guillum's veteran high school coach, Joseph Harris, Gillum is the best he has ever coached. Gillum is a great inside runner and is fast enough to get outside. Gillum's running style is very similar to Keiland Williams'.
19. Sheddrick Davis (WR), 6'3", 200, 4.5, Central of BR. Great size and good hands. According to an assistant coach that I talked to at Central high, Davis is the real deal and will be very highly recruited.
20. Jarrett Fobbs (ATH), 6'0", 185,4.45, Huntington of Shreveport. Fobbs has the ability to play running back, wide receiver or cornerback in college.
21. Elliot Porter (DE), 6'3", 265, 4.7, Shaw. Very aggressive and plays hard the entire game.
22. Jonathan McKnight (RB/DB), 6'0", 185, 4.4, John Curtis. Jonathan's brother is Joe McKnight who plays at USC. Jonathan McKnight will probably play running back his senior season at John Curtis.
23. John Daniel Shepard (QB/DE/P), 6'4", 230, 4.6, ST James. Shepard is a good student and has great work habits and his best football is ahead of him. Shepard's grandfather played football at LSU.
24. Orin Fontenot (LB), 6'2", 4.6, 240, Parkview Baptist. Fontenot is a good student, has good size and is a very aggressive player who I believe will sign with an SEC caliber school if he can get his 40 time down from 4.7 to 4.6
25. Pat Swilling (CB/S), 6'3", 190, 4.6, Brother Martin. Swilling is an outstanding student and could play several positions in college. In my opinion, his best position in college is linebacker. Swilling is also a big-time basketball prospect.
25. (tie) Ricky Irvin (DB/LB) 6'1", 215, Westlake. Very aggressive and will likely play linebacker in college.

How does this class stack up to the '09?

another dogfight for the top player in the state in '10.

Does anybody know if the Swilling kid is Pat Swilling's son (former Saint)? Pat Swilling was one of my favorite Saints!

damn there isn't much talent in the Lafayette area next year

I like it! So who do we start rumors about?

Kid is going to be a beast.

I love that size for WR's.

He will need to gain a few pounds, but I've seen him in person. He's like Chris Henry of a few years back, but without the baggage.
Posted on 2/6/09 at 9:15 am to Peytonknows
fobbs looks pretty good as well in his vids, i'd hate to see him get left out due to us going after reed for the slot position.

Reed or Broadway? I thought Reed was all LSU, could be wrong.

Reed. There's rumors of him going to play his Sr. year in Texas. I'm not sure if that's been confirmed yet or not. Texas claims to have a legit shot at him. Could be leaving to get away from state pressure to go to LSU?
Broadway is going to Alabama. You guys might as well get ready for the onslaught of Alabama fans coming here and claiming to steal a recruit "right from underneath Lester's nose!" When the truth is, there might be a couple QB's on LSU's board higher than Broadway. Supposedly, LSU is only taking 1 QB in '10.

Still early, this time last year you could have sworn D.J Banks was the #1 recruit in the nation.

some people 'in the know' say broadway is the #1 qb on LSU's board next year with wood second...take it with a grain of salt obviously. we'll offer him, he'll go to bama, and foosball will jump off a cliff.
reed was recently quoted as to shooting down those transfer rumors, saying that he 'couldn't do that to my team.'
Texas also believed they had a legit shot at jones and kirkpatrick.

if he signed 4 from LA, that's a lot of slots used from LA alone (all seem to be on the track to qualify)
