Yea the basically said grand isle & fourchon were completely wiped off the map.

this was not a cat 3, 4 or 5 storm. Fourchon flooded during gustav and Ivan and was not wiped off the map.

Got this report from port commission at 530 this morning. Also talked to a guy with a workboat in Fourchon that said a good bit of water and some damage to buildings. I'd be surprised if it is very bad, and definitely not total destruction like some are saying. Also heard an interview with a guy in grand isle on baton rouge news this morning, said 3' of water and 80 mph winds.

quote:

Sustained tropical storm force winds are occurring with occasional hurricane force wind gusts.  Tropical storm and hurricane winds are forecast to last for as much as 24 hours.  Maximum winds are forecast to be in the 60 to 80 mph range with gusts to 90 mph.  A Hurricane Warning is still in effect across Coastal Louisiana.

A Flash Flood Watch remains is in effect for the entire area.

There is water and debris on the roadways in the Port.  The water is continuing to rise at this time.  The National Weather Service continues to advise that a 6-9ft storm surge is likely in Port once the wind direction changes. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has closed LA 1 to all vehicular traffic at LA 1 and the Leon Theriot Floodgates.

Water covers the roadway from LA 1 just south of the Leon Theriot Floodgates and portions of Port Fourchon.  The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has closed LA 1 to all vehicular traffic at LA 1 and the Leon Theriot Floodgates.  The Port Commission is working with NOAA and the NRT-4 Survey Team, who are planning to Survey Belle Pass as soon as it is safe to do so.

Martini, I'm guessing from this post and others that we either know one another or have friends in common. I've been trying to find out about damage in PF. Any more detail?

Thanks Buddy. Chris is a good friend and he's really all-in down there. Glad to hear he wasn't wiped out.

Glad to hear that area of the state is relatively ok (compared to rumors of being 'wiped out', etc.).

I love Grand Isle as much as Tiger Stadium and have fished that area to Fourchon and beyond every chance I get (one of the places my ashes will be spread when I die).

If Fourchon is doing relatively ok in the deluge and with the winds, I know that Grand Isle will make it through.

Thanks for the updates. Prayers for my friends down there.

My brother should be taking his boat back there tomorrow (Captain for Chouest). He emailed me and told me it's pretty smashed up from what he's heard.
