Try V&V in Baton Rouge. They cover the entire area and are cheaper than anyone else I've ever priced and do great work. I'm in the commercial sector, and they do most of our work. They have a residential side that can knock out your roof.

Was listening to WWL today and people's nightmare stories from Katrina. Best advice check the BBB for any companies you talk to. Also, when they show you their certificate call their insurance company. Make sure you are covered if they don't finish the job but cancel their insurance. So many people had horror stories. Also, verify their license to do business in Louisiana and your local municipality. Good luck!!

I have an asbestos slate rood on half my house and I'm looking to replace my whole roof. Exactly how screwed (in dollars) am I?

Why would you be screwed?

Well it depends

Some contractors treat it like asbestos abatement.

Some don't

The fact is the EPA doesn't have the manpower in Louisiana. IF this were Cali you would be screwed on the demo of this roof.

It's been since Katrina since I have gotten any asbestos roof replaced.

You don't have to abate it because it's not friable. It is treated as normal construction waste.

See my above post and don't let a roofing contractor tell you different.

It is as I stated considered general construction debris. They are not required to bag and tag it, use air terminal monitors or dump in approved asbestos landfills. Any roofing contractor can remove asbestos shingles, throw them in a dump truck and dispose of at any landfill just as they would discarded wood or Sheetrock.

Call Perdomo roofing in Metairie and ask for Eric.. It's a good friend of mine that owns the company. Does great work. LSU alumni from '99. Website is nolaroof.com.

Tell him someone on tigerdroppings referred you. That way he will know its me. He will take care of you.

That is for a single family home. Some commercial applications require monitoring but mostly only bag and tag and disposal in a specific landfill.

Mitch is the owner of the Reroof America franchise in New Orleans. Good guy that knows roofing and has a dedicated crew that does good work. He will call it straight and help with insurance. I highly recommend...

Damage due to the hurricane or just want to replace? If with insurance you need a roofer that knows insurance and can get you a like kind and quality roof...

Just re-doing. Asphalt shingle section was damaged by Gustave and a little more by Isaac and its time to change. Plus insurance companies don't want to to cover me for a reasonable price.

Definitely true. When I got my asbestos roof removed, I took a picture of the dumpster, which also included a slice of pizza.
