Really hits close to home when this happens to one of our TD's.

Went to LaPlace today to bring my parents some more gasoline and ice. It's unreal the amount of water that got pushed in. Places that have never flooded before saw several feet in their homes.

Can anyone tell me why we flooded? Im hearing that Lake Ponchartrain over filled, but was it due to some of the new levees?

No, the levees are not to blame. The storm came onshore southwest of N.O. meaning SE winds pushed water into the lake. Then NE winds off the back side of the storm then pushed the overflowing lake into LaPlace. Unfortunately, the track was "perfect".

Hope everyone is safe.

The wife and I left our house in River Oaks Tuesday night and came to her parents; they live in subdivision off st. Andrews past the Links.

We were able to drive back there yesterday around 10 a.m., got some more clothes and things for 5 month old. We were there for maybe 15-20 minutes, and realized the water rised too much in that little time to get out in my truck. We went to my bro-inlaw's around the corner who thankfully has a raised truck that could make it.

We watched the water rise from my inlaws all day yesterday; a couple feet in a couple hours. It was fricking incredible and scary as hell. Eventually it stopped about a foot from their door, and six inches from their home generator.

We went back to our house around 11 a.m. today, and the water stopped 1.5" below our door. Unbelievable how blessed we were, but at the same time, my brother in law and many friends took on a lot of water. Very very sad around here. I'll post some pics whenever my shitty BB decides to find some service.

And to you guys helping out. fricking heroes

Are I-10 and Airline closed in Laplace? I will be traveling from Metairie to Baton Rouge Saturday and from what I heard I won't be able to pass through Laplace. Is 55 to 12 the only option I have?

TIA

Anyone know if thete was flooding along Airline in Reserve up toward Marathon?
I'm halfway through the hiring process at a facility up that way and wondering how they made out.

EDIT:they are located on West 19th St. right off Airline.

You won't be able to get to I-55. I-10 is closed at I-310.

Here's what NOLA.com suggests for BR to NOLA...I suppose the reverse would get you from NOLA to BR:
quote:

Coming from the west drivers will have to take a detour off of Interstate 10 around a closure near Gramercy:
Take exit 187 to U.S. 61 toward Gramercy.
Turn right onto Highway 641
Highway 641 will turn into Highway 3127 near the Mississippi River
Take Interstate 310 to New Orleans and connect to I-10 east.

Thanks for the reply. I was just looking at this route on mapquest. That's probably my best bet.

Causeway to 12 seems like it would be a lot quicker than crossing the river and taking 3127.

I can probably do it in the morning on the way as I've taken that route to Donaldsonville before. But there's no way in hell I'm attempting that route back at midnight after a long day of tailgating. I'll be making some crashing arrangements tomorrow.

Not sure. I had friends coming back from Houston tonight call about the roads, and I told them about that route. They haven't reached that far yet though.

According to Google Maps (punching in generic Baton Rouge to Metairie directions), that detour route is 88.9 miles / 1hr 50min

Traditional I-10 route shows as 74.3 miles / 1hr 19min.

Using the I-12 to Causeway route shows 97.2 miles / 1 hour 51 mins.

Obviously, traffic affects all these numbers.

I have lots of pics but will need to wait until I can get to a computer to post them :( my poor parish is under so much water... 3500 people were rescued.

I want to say a big thank you to all that helped the people in this community to safety.

I would avoid Airline through Laplace. There is no power, so getting through takes time at the lights. Plenty of people still getting bussed out and people trying to get back to Laplace to assess damages/start repairs. You are better off avoiding Airline through Laplace right now.
