If you were going to add a wood ceiling to a room, what would you use?

T&G Pine? Its about a 10X12 area.

I'm curious as to why you want to do so.

Do you have wood ceilings already? If so, go with whatever matches.

Are you going for a certain theme for the room?

I wouldn't try to change the ceiling of one room that doesn't match the rear of the home, if you're doing that.

Yep, T&G pine would be my choice. You can either stain and finish it with some type urethane or just finish it without stain, or prime and paint.

Personally, I'd opt for unstained with a satin polyurethane finish to see the natural grain of the wood.

Just finished such a ceiling at my fiancee's mother's house and in a similar sized room. Fun weekend project that included some wiring work to fix some old wiring and found that instead of a return duct just the opening in the wall and ceiling was used for the HVAC in that room and an adjacent. A water leak from upstairs damaged the original popcorn textured ceiling so it was all going to come down anyway.

The lady is German and has a taste for eclectic paint colors... And yes, that is casing instead of crown moulding, what she wanted.

It was about $600 in materials, used my Hitachi 15ga finish nailer for all of it. One thing to note if you are planning this as a DIY is that if you don't know how to work this stuff, it's going to break your heart and probably your shoulders too. No matter who you source this stuff from it's going to be wavy in every direction so get yourself some good clamps and a set of Viking arms to push it around to nail in place. Real easy to get significantly out of square in a hurry with pine t&g.

pine will always have that orange hue.

i prefer cedar. we looked ay t&g but i ended up buying a bunch of fence boards, cutting the dog ears off, planning one side smooth, and just straight nailing them to the ceiling. i like it.

T-111 4x8 sheets, pine
Quick, cheapest and easiest.

Light stain on it and tell all its "cedar"

1x6 T&G beadboard in spruce. Use the beadboard side for a more narrow plank look or use the reverse side for a larger plank look.

I’ve ran miles of wood ceilings over the years and my favorite is pecky cypress.
