Window Egress

There's a window halfway between floors at this house. On the stair landing. It's between the 2nd & 3rd floors...narrow little house that was built tall.
Going down the stairs it seems like a fall hazard. Slip & fall through the window, onto the roof and roll off with a drop of about 15'to the ground.
Would the window be considered an egress window? I was thinking of installing bars on the inside to prevent any fall. Then the window bar info started talking about egress and now I don't know. Block possible egress or risk a fall?
In broad daylight on a good day it would be risky to go out the window although a fire is pretty motivating. I supposed firefighters could access the roof via ladder.
Is a stairway required to have egress?

Stairway is the egress so I highly doubt the window needs to be. How do you get down from the roof once you're out there?

You would not need egress in this situation. Egress windows are required in any sleeping or living area separated by a door from your natural means of egress (exit doors)

Everywhere I've ever lived, egress windows were required for bedrooms. If you have a window near enough to ground level in every bedroom, that should suffice for most dwellings.

Egress not a problem but it probably needs to be tempered glass.

Why hot stop by a fire station and ask if some firemen can come look at it?

the window does not need to be operable but by code the glass will need to be tempered regardless of size.

Egress required in sleeping rooms.
5.7sf clear opening on first floor
5.0sf clear opening 2nd floor and above.

It would not be an egress window.
All glass in stairwells have to be safety glass, so in your case it should be tempered. If you trip and fall into it, you're more than likely to end up with a knot on your head instead of falling through.
