Having to replace some wood windows on the front of my house. Probably going vinyl. What’s that best brand for vinyl windows out there?

The biggest thing you should look for is who has the best warranty. The majority of vinyl windows are built with very similar with all the same components. You have manufactures building 3 different brand windows out of the same plant. The exterior profile is the biggest difference in all of them. Also I would go with clear IG instead of anything with low-e glass. Over time the film will fade or distort leaving big sploches in the glass that are an eyesore. In my opinion the low-e doesn't provide a big enough difference to worry about having it.

I can't tell you how many replacements I've done for window companies that claim to have good warranties. Most will do the whole "go out of business and re-open as another company" thing every decade or so.

I run in to IGs with that problem, but that's primarily an issue with the older hard-coat low-e. Soft coat (high performance) low-e is less prone to this issue. The seal will typically fail long before the low-e coating goes "bad." A lot of manufactures have switched over to soft coat because energy codes are getting more strict. If your solar heat gain is 0.60 or less, it's probably soft coat low-e.

Several of our wood windows have rotted and have seal failure. Might go the clad route but not sure.

There are a thousand brands. I went with Showcase out of Houston. Happy so far. My window and door guy sells like 10 brands and he recommended this one.

I spent nearly 15k on Pella Windows several years ago. 1 leaked, 2 had to be repaired, and their warranty was shite to deal with. Never again. Relief and acadian offer a higher quality window with better installers, at a lower price. You are paying for the Pella name and nothing more.
